Bike ran perfectly, but I needed to do some basic springtime maintenance and also change the tires/brakes. Put it up on the jack pulled the tires, pulled the tank to check the air filter (which was good so I didn't even replace it), checked coolant, changed oil/filter, put everything back together (shy front tire) and now it won't idle. Hoping there is maybe something I have might have just bumped that I may have missed? Any ideas where to start? I went over all the connections I made (3 tank lines) and everything looked good. Bike is still on the jack (maybe that?) since I didn't get the front tire back on yet.   :'( :'( :'(

(Turned out to be the small vacuum line from the fuel tank was cracked midway through the hose where it turns)

Tank vent connected and not kinked? Petcock switched to run? Fuel line not kinked? Check fuel flow out of the petcock....run a long hose into a bucket.

It will run, but not idle?

Check your enrichment cable (choke) for correct operation .

Check the vacuum line to #6 from the petcock is connected and in good condition.
A vacuum leak can cause this

Did it start at all. Or run only when throttle was opened  Was the fuel drained from the carb bowls.

xMirage2kx

It started but would die if I didn't twist the throttle a bit. (If I let go of the throttle it seemed like it would try idling at like 200 rpm for 3-5 seconds then die).

I'll start checking into these things and see what I can find.

Are you sure you have vacuum to the petcock off of cyl 6.  How long did I you have it running.  I'm not sure you're getting fuel to the. Carbs and the bowls are not full

Some have run the fuel down being scared of a heavy tank then forgetting there isn't enough gas to run on ON.

Is your fuel valve on reserve?

Removing and reinstalling the tank is always an adventure! I'm guessing that you have a pinched vent hose. Open the gas cap and start it and see how it runs. If it's not that then it's the main fuel line to the rails is crimped, or you did not get the vacuum line going from cylindar 6 to the petcock back on correctly, it is leaking or possily crimped.
Let us know what you find and then please change the first word in the heading of your topic to "RESOLVED". So that others searching for similar symptoms can find the answer. Thanks.

Looks like 20y/o rubber tubing may be to blame. Looks great at the point of connections, but where it snakes down it is cracked. Gotta get some new hose before I can confirm this is the issue... but with everything said here it looks pretty likely. Anyone know the size of the hose off the top of their head (the small one from the fuel petcock)? In fact while I am at it any know of a whole vacuum tubing replacement kit? If one can go bad this easily then I would bet they are all close.

The vacuum lines are 3.5 mm or 5/32nds if you want to get it locally.
