I've been running General Altimax rear tires for a quite a few years now. I ran GY TT's before that but decided I preferred the Altimax after I tried them. I get just shy of 30,000 miles out of them, they stick very well wet or dry and feel more bike-like to me than the GY TT's.
However, I'm due to replace the rear again and the Altimax tires I ran seem to have been replaced with a different tread pattern.
I'd like some recommendations from you guys and gals on 205 by 60 by 16, directional, symmetrical, car tires or a source for the Generals. Thanks in advance. Mike

If you are set on the 205/60 size my recommendation would be the Yokohama Avid Envigor. I never got close to 30k out of them though. I have started using a 195/60 size and like it better. But it is not in that size with the Envigor.

Thanks, another member just mentioned this same tire to me. May give it a try.

Man, I appreciate that but I just got off the phone with a local shop who will have one on Monday for me. I was on hold for a while, they must be getting hard to find.

Although I liked it, it's only good for about 14-15k miles.

Have you went Darkside on the "B" yet ? Dennis had the last time I saw him, but I don't remember what it was.

My original rear tire (Dunlop) blew after a plug blew out on the way back from the Illinois Freedow Run. Da Prez was standing about 6 feet behind me and Old2soon was also close by when I had just put a new plug in and had aired up the tire. I was still laying on the ground after checking the tire pressure when it blew right into my face and chest from about 3 feet away. THAT sure got my attention. Sooo, I went with a Bridgestone Driveguard RunFlat tire and love it. It rides every bit as good as the Yoko I had on the Valk and will get about double the mileage. One guy on the F6b forum has 25k on his and it's still got tread left. Since I don't have to do the rear end maintenance every 10k, I'm gonna love the longevity...and piece of mind that the Runflat will give. I did put FOBO tire pressure monitors on the valve stems. They work well

It feels every bit as good as that was, if not better. It flexes just like the Yoko did. There's at least 4 of us that I know of running that tire on the B. I don't know of anyone running the Avid on a B. Many are running the Micelin Primacy Alpin Run flat but it's discontinued and many are paying a premium for it. I don't understand it cuz my Driveguard was only about 106 bucks and it's V rated to boot. And they DO come in 205 60/16. I think that was the Valk size. Don't forget if you get a flat, you aren't broke down on the spot. You can go up to 50miles...I think at up to 50mph to get to a repair place.

Thanks, Russ I think I'll try it on my next change. You're welcome. You'll be the first Driveguard Valk owner I know. Before you go for it, I want to add that it is not recommended going to a Runflat without a tire pressure monitoring system. I use the FOBO for motorcycles. It's a hundred bucks for two sensors. I would also recommend the "T" valve stem setup. This would allow you to add air on the side port while the FOBO is screwed on to the end port. With a regular stem, the sensor has to be removed to add air. On my next tire changeouts, I will add the T shaped stems. Just thought I'd clue you in on that ahead of time so you can plan accordingly if this or any other runflat is still for you. I think the peace of mind is worth the added setup.
