It's been 12 years since I went to Sturgis.

Going again this year with a couple of riding friends.

South out of Keystone on 16A. I can't recall which direction would provide the views through the tunnels as the road twists and turns alot. But if you are not going the right direction at first, turn around and go back through!

I think it's here:

The Street View camera doesn't get a good shot of Rushmore, however.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Needles HWY/ Iron Mntn Rd. Go in from Custer St Pk area and it swings north towards Keystone SD (Mt Rushmore). I cant remember but I don't think there is a place to stop and get a pic unless you do it as you enter the tunnel, esp if there is traffic.

Where you staying?

After 12 yrs of going, 11 of those in a row, We are going to miss it this yr as we trek to the great Southwest this yr instead. It weights on my heart about not going as I wont be able to see my friends along the way or while out there.  Cry

Iron mountain. Which way does not matter. Easy enough to turn around and reverse course.

That's what I remember about the traffic last time. A constant flow.

Friend has a 45foot toyhauler RV. We are staying at the KOA in Rapid City.

I seem to want to say all the tunnels make a frame for Mt. Rushmore. Might be wrong...

After the tunnel a little way there is a pull off place. You go up a hill and turn right there is a (busy) parking lot where you can see the dead presidents...
