Sometimes when I walk out to my bike after work, there's a shiny red
Corvette there. Once, the guy was in it, and I was getting onto my 1500,
we smiled at each other's ride and I told him his need more white  Wink ...

Today, this thing was there... as I walked up I guessed it was one of those
"kit cars", but maybe not... I don't know a Shelby Cobra from shinola, but
I guess this is one?

If it's a real one, you're looking at about $1,000,000 or more (WAY more). Assuming a replica.

People wonder why I'm such a pat rack, afraid to get rid of anything. My dad owned a REAL one briefly in the 60's. Decided it was impractical and got a lawyer to force the dealership to take it back.

*Sigh*

That would be a kit...not sure which one, there are some very good ones out there...wheels are from a '94 Mustang...and since a Mustang was probably the donor...it is most likely a 5.0 SBF of the Windsor persuasion.

In the late '70's I was a partnership owner of a '68 Cobra Jet 428 bored .040 over with an Offenhauser dual intake manifold and two 750 Holleys. The frame was bent when we acquired it so being the bright, industrious youngsters we were, we picked up a Mustang Mach 1 with a blown head gasket and dropped the 428 in the Mach 1. Let us just say the Mach 1 was never designed for a big block and leave it at that. We could have bought two new Mopar products by the time that car was on the road and (sort of) street legal. The only gas that ran that 428 properly was pumped at the local airstrip. Shortly after I sold my share of that car, the Mach 428 tried to leave gravity behind and found gravity wins every time.

I came across a Shelby 428 original while working in Lincoln Park and the owner was willing to part with that '68 for only a half million.

One of the Officers at N A S Alameda had one in 67 or 68. Goin on memory here!  :2funny:I Do remember it was one of the prettiest blues I'd ever seen on a car. Just happened to be there one time when he came back to his ride and after I saluted we talked cars. Then he had t split and I stood real close when he fired it up. DAMN.  cooldude In 67 I was 22 and on E-4 pay could not see how I could ever own one.  Cry RIDE SAFE.

That sure looks like fiberglass to me, even from a picture. So that means its a kit car.  Even so, I think they are the ones to drive and the only kind a guy like can afford.

I had a 1965 leaf spring 3" Cobra years ago.  I stroked a 289" to about 326" with a wild [ too wild] camshaft and went from 1x4 to 2x4 to 4 Webers. It came with 3:89 rear gears so I changed to 4:10. That car was rip your face off fast. It was because of this car that I got to meet Mr and Mrs Shelby [ great people].

Also, very few Cobras were built with 427s, [ If I remember correctly 50-55] most came with the cheaper 428 engine.

The Cobra was a great combination, but, had the aerodynamics of a brick and ran into a wall at 150 mph. So the competition version of the 427 was stuffed in to break through that wall and end up in the 160-165 mph range.

Well, you're not hard to please when it comes to cars!

At 17-8, any car that (mostly) runs on its own power that you can afford ($450 as I recall) and belongs to you alone is like one of the greatest adventures of your life.....so far.   Grin

That thing (Austin Healy Sprite) was a disaster, after my first car (Volkswagon beater, but reliable).  I think it had some Lucas, reverse polarity, 6 volt nightmare electrical system, and rocks, nuts and bolts in the transmission).  The plastic side windows bolted on (but could not be seen through), and when you folded down the convertible top it did not tuck in anywhere, and had to be pulled out of two holes in back and left at home (if you left it folded down blowing in the wind, there was a good chance it would bounce out and blow away).  It was like a motorcycle, I drove it in the rain a lot with no top.  It was OK though, the water ran out of all the holes in the floor.   Grin

My dad is like..... I TOLD YOU LAY OFF THAT FOREIGN CRAP!

Sprite ?  I bought a Bug-eye from an insurance co for $75 way back when.  I stuck a 289 Ford with C4 in it. Had fun cooking tires in it for awhile. i don't think I could crawl into one today.

Reach under the fender and feel for metal or fiberglass. That's definitely a kit car. Worth about $30-40K. In '72 I came across a real 289 Cobra for $5500. Wife said if I bought that, she'd divorce me. I made the wrong choice. It wasn't so bad, I was racing a '65 Tiger heavily modified. Life was fun.

It's a replica. First wrong rims, second ford didn't offer that color on cobras. You don't repaint a classic cause it won't be worth the million price tag. Third if you look at the last picture you see the bolts behind the exhaust that hold the body onto the frame. Fourth the 427 that was installed was a side oiler. But no matter what they are a blast to drive.

I've always liked the Sunbeam Tiger, used to call them the poor mans Cobra. But they are a neat car and the creation of the same man that built the Cobra, Kenny Miles.

Was just looking thru some kit Cobra info. It appears that one is an early Factory 5 kit as they used mustangs as donors. With that info and from the looks of that car, it ain't worth much.

It's worth whatever a seller and buyer agree on it being worth.   No more, no less.

I'd take it in a heart beat but there are a couple of problems.   No money and no more room to put another toy in the Shop.   But, I have no doubt an AC Cobra would be a blast to play with.  Honestly, I'd rather have a replica than a museum piece.    A replica would offer options never even thought of during the original's production years with better suspension, different engine and drive train options and what ever else one wanted.   Yeah, I'd take one.

Anyone know how to start one of those Go Fund Me things?   All assistance to get me a Cobra is greatly appreciated.   Wink

The car has been there a few more times, the lady who drives it was
there one afternoon. She says it is made from a 94 (or some such) Mustang,
and her Dad (Uncle?) helped build it. I tried to get her to make it
go VROOM VROOM when she drove away, but no luck, I think she
thought I wanted her to patch out... I don't think it would be real
loud, but it has a nice deep sound...

OH, well, I'd take it too. It needs a lot of TLC and could be made into a nice sunday afternoon cruiser. I don't think it would take too much money to do it. I just wouldn't pay much for it from the looks of the pics.
