I got a new EBC brake rear rotor and pads for my IS. It is a flat piece of steel with no paint on it. I think that it will rust on the parts that don't touch the brake pads. Will it rust? If I need to paint it then what would you guys recommend? I know for the most part it is covered up with the bags so it doesn't need to be pretty.

Thanks, David in Fletcher NC

Rotor, usually unpainted. But I have seen someone who did paint theirs. Just don't paint the surface where the pads touch.

Caliper, now I've been thinking of doing that, to match the bike.

I painted the parts of the rotor untouched by the pads with a red high heat spray paint from home depot.  This was not on the Valkyrie, it was on an 1100 Spirit.  Not sure how much of a difference there is in the rotors between the bikes.  The 1100 has floating brake surfaces.  I was going to powder coat but the powdercoater didn't want to put the rotor in the oven for fear of warping it so I painted it.  Looks good and has lated a few years now with no issues.  I don't use brake cleaner on the painted parts.
