Thinking bout doing the desmog mod? What's the best and cheapest out there? Also getting rid of the petcock. What's the best on off valve and best way to put it on?

I did the desmog and used 14mm frost plugs to block the top holes, bottom plates cut the pipes, folded the ends and sealed them... Why spend good fuel money on bits you don't need :P

Same fuel tap as Harryc mentioned and I went for this fuel shutoff valve

I put a strip of alloy across to support the fuel shutoff firmly, upped the fuel line to the tap to ID 10mm and biggest filter I could fit (volume with gravity gives better pressure)...... but have had to drop the fuel line back down and a smaller filter as it had to much fuel flow for the float valves (they were leaking making it rich)....but will fit new float valves and try again when I get time

Fabbed up my own "stuff" fer the desmog and used the freeze plugs. BUT on each corner where you could see the freeze plugs I liquid steeled acorn nuts-chrome-for a more Finished look. And while I wuz in there after removing things installed NEW fuel lines and NEW vacuum hose to # 6 carb for the petcock. OR you can order from Redeye. RIDE SAFE.

On the last picture.  Why not remove the hold down for the pipe fitting that is already removed?

Instructions in Shoptalk. Here is the one I'm following.

Except for missing replacing the vacuum line left over, with something new.

So far $8 for parts at my local auto store. Then the dremel to cut the line off the bottom tubs and JB weld to seal.

Mine being the UK model it also holds the idle adjust knob   ;)

OK, makes sense but seems rather strange.  I guess For people that still has feelings in their hands using the knob how the US models are (inbetween the intake risers) can get a little warm

Remind me about this when we go to supper and I'll explain what I did.

Going off of your title for this thread, I have not desmogged.  I bought the red eye kit almost three years ago, 30k ago, so I'm ready to do it but the bike runs perfectly and well if it ain't broke...

If I hadn't desmogged already, I wouldn't do it now. I helped Stanley Steamer
replace his vacuum lines, it wasn't hard. You can't undo the de-smog, and
it's kind of a no-op unless you're ripping out leaky vacuum lines.

See that's what I was thinking also. The bike runs great and I have no issues with leaky vacuums lines. So I figure I'll wait till or if I do then desmog it.

Motivation for the Desmog for me was while the cards were out....and to give room for the shutoff valve, It would not fit where I mounted it with it still there :)
