I've always wanted to have a go at some custom paint work so recently bought an old GSXR 400 Suzuki to play with. No way I'm painting my Valk. This is my first attempt at it, I started of with the wheels. The original wheel. After rubbing it down, priming and spraying it black, I faded some silver on the rim. Next was a layer of clear coat with some "cosmic" orange flake, followed by some more clear with candy burnt orange. I've got a couple more coats of plain clear coat to put on yet. I'm quite happy with the end result, not perfect by any means, but they still look pretty cool. I'm spraying the fairings and tank this week.

Looks good, but is the inside of the wheel suppose to be painted? I would think you would have issues with the bead if you painted the bead side. I don't know, just asking

No issue painting the bead as long as the paint adheres well. Car wheels have been painted four years. MHO.

All wheels are painted inside. A lot of the problems with alloy wheels losing air is because the alloy starts to corrode under the paint.

Your first attempt looks like success to me! I have been painting all my life, the first time I tried scared the crap out of me. I was painting my 24 T Roadster. I enjoy hearing when people DIY anything, if it doesn't come out perfect the first time, you always know what not to do the next time. GOOD JOB!!

All the paintings done, hydrographics done, just a couple of small jobs left. Here's what I started with. And here's the end result

Very nice work indeed ! You do realize it will be hard for an officer not to notice that great looking bike speeding past him maybe just to pull you over and comment on the paint job if you are lucky like me. I've been pulled over in my 57 just so the LEO could talk to me about my car

Looks really nice. I have painted light years ago mid 70s with a electrostatic spray system and if I got a gun in my hand today I think I could really make a mess of it. Last time I even used a cup gun was 76.

I find that doubly amazing. My imagination seems to limit me as far as seeing something like that in the detail you created much less actually painting it.

Thanks Guys. It's currently up for sale on Ebay here in the UK. I may look for a set of Valkyrie tins to play with. I'm not going to paint mine, I'll keep them standard.
