:-XI have all the necessary seals and was thinking of reinstalling the final drive and all. My 2000 Standard was leaking fluid down onto my tire. I discovered the fluid was leaking from the seal on the final drive. I got the set of 3 seals and was ready to put together. Well, now I've lost the stopper ring on the drive shaft. Besides, I am having a bugger of a time getting the drive shaft to line up and go into the universal joint. Any secrets anyone.

All help is appreciated. I've gained so much respect for this site and I've been able to do much more than I could have without your assist. So, once again I need some help.

Oh is there a good place to order a new stopper ring? Thanks!

You need to raise the swing arm up and it will pop in place

You need to insert the drive shaft into the final drive before trying to get it in the u joint.  Holding the final drive, sit directly behind the bike and shake it around a bit as it gets to the u joint until it gets in there.

Also, it helps to put the drive flange in the final drive so that you can turn the driveshaft as you put it in. Then take the drive flange out and put it in the wheel.

I found it helps to put a 1x4 on top of the exhaust to support/raise the swing arm. It helps to get things aligned. I've also read about guys using a ratchet strap to hold the swing arm up.

Copious use of the F-bomb seems to help as well.  Just when it seems you've tried everything, try 1 more time, it'll go.

The stopper ring on the rear end of the drive shaft isn't necessary. It's a convenient device for factory assembly.

When up button everything up remember that the 4 drive shaft housing to rear end housing stud nuts get tightened last.

Not last!  Immediately following the axle nut. Then you can put the shocks and whatever else on in any order you wish because the alignment of the final drive is set.

Absolutely correct! Installing the right side shock will cause the Final Drive to rotate if the 4 nuts are loose.

Thanks for all the info. I'll hopefully get to work on it tomorrow or Monday. Today I'm laying low with a cold. Hopefully better soon, so I can get the Valk back together and on the road again. thanks for all your input. I'll let you know when it all comes together and how it goes.

I got your PM and sent one to Ralverez and hope to hear from him soon. I sure wouldn't want to share whatever it is I've got. I think I've turned the corner with it though....am beginning to feel better. Besides, Mother's Day had a strong pull today. Ya know?
