I'm heading south to watch the eclipse with Mr. Whiskey in August, and on the way, I'm thinking about a stop in Mt.Airy, NC.
I'm old enuff to remember the Andy Griffith Show, and wouldn't mind spending a couple hours reminiscing and taking a walk thru the town where it was filmed.
But I'd avoid it like the plague if it's just a tourist trap.
Anyone been? Opinions?

thanks,
Craig

The wife  and I stopped and found it quite interesting.  We visited Floyds Barber shop and I bought a hat.  We visited the snappy lunch diner.  We were there during Mayberry days, and they had a 1960 or so Ford Cop car that was driven by a Barney look alike giving tours of the town. We saw the jail, overall I would say it's worth the stop.  Road around there are hilly and curvy, so getting there isn't bad either.

When I was still driving the truck stop on the big road-interstate-had Excellent food any time of day. Never managed to spare the time to visit the town.  The truck stop also had some Mayberry memrobilia. RIDE SAFE
