Dear Friends

I got this as xmas gift from my wife, she knows that I love the feats of engineering that were needed to make the SR-71 possible. The link:
https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-SR-71-Blackbird-Breakthrough/dp/0760348499/

It was written by Richard H. Graham, a quick bio: "He was selected to enter the SR-71 strategic reconnaissance program in 1974 at Beale Air Force Base, California. He flew the SR-71 for the next seven years, amassing 756 hours in the worlds fastest and highest flying aircraft. Col. Graham also flew the SR-71 as an Instructor Pilot and Stan/Eval Pilot. In 1980, he was selected to be the squadron commander of the SR-71 unit at Beale."

I finished reading it and got to say: Wow! It is by far the best book on the subject. Hard cover, beautiful photos of each aircraft that were made as also its final destination.

It is also quite interesting to think this amazing airplanes were designed and built in California and had to be transported by road to Nevada where they were first tested (there are a photos of the truck/trailer that had to be built to transport the airplanes completely covered).

Overall, this is a beautiful book, written by an expert with real experience on flying this planes and deep  information on all aspects of the operation.

If you like aviation, go to Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio. I have been there 4 times and still enjoy it. You can hardly see it all in a day. Blackbird is on display.

cooldude on W-P Air Force Base! We spent 2 days, from open to close there a few years ago, and could have done more.
Be sure to do the R&D hanger tour.

In '68 a Blackbird landed at my AF base in Kansas. I was in uniform on duty but an AP with an M16 prevented me from getting closer than 200'.
