Although I've had back problems for what seems like forever, things got to the point in February where riding, walking, etc, became almost impossible without a bunch of white little pills. Not good!

To spare the many boring details, I had back surgery on 3/29. Finally now things have gotten to where with caution I can do things, as long as I don't bend, lift, or twist. (Try living a normal life and not doing any of those things!  Embarrassed). So, while I still have to be careful, and am limited in how long or how hard I can do things, I have started to ride my bicycle to start building up some endurance and strength again. I've even ridden my Indian for 50 mile trips, but can't ride the the Phat Gurl yet since it's taller, heavier, and getting it backed up and out of the ride-on chock is a pain, but I will get there. The Indian sits in a Wheel-Dock chock, and while expensive, you get what you pay for. The bike just rolls out after releasing the pneumatic cylinder!

So, long story short, I'm back to lurking on the board, and trying to be a part of the riding family. Sometimes you don't realize what you have until you've lost it! I'm glad to be back.

Well-welcome back-Again.  Roll Eyes As WE age our warranties expire and the bill comes due.  Lips Sealed Notice we are close in the Years we Served. I was in Uncle Sugars Canoe Club-and Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 1964  1968. My smoking caught up with me even though I've quit. Take care and Try to NOT rush the rehab. RIDE SAFE.

I know I didn't need to leave, but it's painful to read about the things you can't do at the time.  Cry Focus changes.)

What did they do to your back?   I've had 3 Kyphoplasty surgeries to glue 9 vertebrae back together.

Biggest problem is Congenital Stenosis, so nerves are always constricted. Plus most disks are compressed (I used to be 6'2", now just under 6"). Lots of Arthritis spurs, several blown disks, or as my Doc says, "a big Mess". Sciatica got so bad not able to function without narcotics, and even then I could not walk/stand without agony.

Technical terms for procedures were: Foraminotomy, Laminotomy, Discectomy, and a couple of other "ectomies. Layman's term: Spine decompression surgery without fusion. Doc hopes it gives me up to 8 years of relief. I hope he is right. Not perfect yet, but much better and I'm not expecting miracles.

Gluing up your verts don't sound good either. Hope you stay glued together instead of being "Humpty Dumpty". Shocked

YIKES.  Best wishes for a good recovery Valkahuna.  As far as medicine and surgery has advanced, that darn back still is on the low end of advancements.  I too have stenosis although to what degree I do not know.  Best back doc in Dayton thinks injections will get me by.  For now I take aleve 2 to 3 times per week.    Sciatica has been an issue several times in my life and good gracious that can bring you down right now, although chiropractor has always worked.

I have a question.  Has anyone done that Laser Spine Institute to clean out bone that irritates the nerve?.  My gosh they advertise a lot but I know of no one that has done it.

The back specialist I went to said , my back was junk. Two (only) blown discs and artheritis thru out. I had the injections and they worked wonders. For a while I could not walk. I am going in in the 24th for a hip replacement. He said I needed the hip more than the back repairs. I guess if you work all your life , this is the reward.  I was able to throw a leg over the bike and rode a block. That is the most I have done in about three months. I just work on it when I can.

A friend of mine I saw in rehab the same time as me after back surgery said "Ah the golden years, we get the years the doctors get the gold"
Much truth to that.

I am glad the injections work for you.  My sister had bad issues and she swears by them.  Hope that hip replacement does wonders for you Mr. Prez, most do.   It is too dang bad medicine can not just grow a person a new completely functional and healthy spine for our golden years.  Some day they will be able to, to late for us.
