I would also agree with that.

It is more what are add on running lights worth? Can get them for something like $50 and mount them on the crash bars. Why would I pay much more?

I agree with what the others said. If you have your heart set on them, they can be worth quite a bit.

But consider that the lighting that comes with them is going to be old incandescent technology, I would think.
Today's lighting choices are so much better, including LEDs. For what you're probably going to pay for the pods/lighting, you could probably do better with aftermarket lighting.

If a company has come up with a round bright LED that fits the pod cutout as a stock replacement, it would be more functional.

Stanley Steamer's light up great in my rear-view mirror, the triangle
formed by them and the headlight really stand out - that's the
purpose of lower lights like that, I think... I have moto-lights on
my Tourer and pod lights on my 1800...

I think Stanley replaces the bulbs in his with some overhead projector
bulb that you can get at autoparts stores... probably don't quite have
that part right...

I like LED too, but the OEM Interstate pod lights do the job and look
good in a built-in way...

I have a set of pods and a set of pod lights that I'm going to add to my Standard.

A very good (bargain) price on a pair of pods is $300.  The going price for a set of lights is about $500.

If one is adding them to other than an Interstate he will also need the brackets for the pods.

I have the Pod lights on my I/S (bought them back when they were in production and not as dear as now) and have LED bulbs in them.  They are nice and bright and will last a lot longer than the standard H3 bulbs.

Which bulbs are you using ? I've tried a couple with not so good results.

Adding the pods to other than an I/S is a bit involved. I had to change the long flange bolt rod that passes behind the radiator....different p/n on the I/S from either the Std. or Tourer. Same for the radiator, different p/n but I found a method to mount the brackets without changing the radiator. Has to do with how the pod mount brackets are mounted to the radiator. The air dam behind the radiator is also different but I didn't bother with that until later when I had to pull the carbs, I changed it at that time but don't think I had to. Also, the pods use the engine guard for one of the mounting points so requires changing them as well. All in all, it's not a simple bolt on change. All things considered, if I had it to do over again....I wouldn't. At times I've thought if I could come up with a decent priced Tourer windshield w/all the mounting hardware, replacement engine guards, etc., i.e., return to the Tourer OEM configuration, I'd seriously consider it. At this time in my life I'll probably not pursue that. It did cost me a little bit of mileage as well by the time I added my fairing. Having my #12's hanging out in the wind probably doesn't help either.  Grin

You will need to remove the plastic housing around the female end of the connector to tighten it up a little - the spade is not a thick as the one for the H3 bulb.  It's an easy thing to do.  Fits just fine in the fog light housing.

Any chance we could see a picture of them illuminated?  Say, head on, daylight, at 50 feet out front?

I installed the aftermarket kit  produced by one of our club members about three years back (it was a very well done kit!) I think I bought one of his last kits at the time and I think it was $500.00 for the complete kit . . . and I was happy to get it.  I like the idea of the triangular affect for visibility, so other vehicles see me.  I think throwing these new bulbs in there might make our visibility even better, but I'd like to see a picture.

I am in the process of putting an Austone on the back, doing the rear end spline service, changing the oil and filter, finding that damn rattling caliper clip and putting new bearings in the front, so it's not in good rolling shape right now but getting it ready for the next 100,000 miles.  Tomorrow afternoon, I hope to get that shot for you.

I have a picture of the lights after installing in the garage - here it is.

More later.
