Of being a non-smoker. My last cigarette was on May 20 1992! My ex kept on smoking even after getting lung cancer. She survived that somehow but got emphysema and checked out last Thanksgiving week at the young age of 64. My daughter was devastated. Her brother, my ex BIL, died of the same thing last May at 65. I have his Valkyrie. Her older sister, same thing early last year. And her other older sister, about 5 years ago of lung cancer. And my son still smokes...

While I firmly believe we are all responsible for the decisions we make, that doesn't mean I think we always make good decisions.
Sounds like you made a good one. Good for you.

Mark...congrats buddy! I will be 16 years on 5 Nov. Addiction is a strange creature... Swore I would never get involved with a woman who smoked...I did, but she checked the other 2 boxes. Loved motorcycles and cars. She quit a coupleof years after we met and right before we got serious...

Congratulations, keep it up! There is more of life to live for, than to continue to destroy your life.
I am not an anti smoker. I don't like or agree with some government decisions. All should make their own choice. It's just that I agree with and applaud you for your choice. When enough people stop smoking, Big Tobacco will die too.
My dad passed now 11+ years ago, 18 years after quitting, so don't be afraid to have a check up once in a while.

Good on ya mark. All my breathing issues ARE DIRECTLY attributable to my time spent smoking. No IF No ANDS No BUTS. When I unloaded last August? Yup-my smoking was THE ROOT cause of the unload. Smoking do CAUSE long term health issues. Even after I talk with my friends and I show them the "stuff" I now need for a "life style" they continue to puff away-much to the delight of big tobacco. Off the soap box fer a bit. RIDE SAFE.

Really something to be proud of Mark. I finally quit in 95 after many unsuccessful attempts. I don't remember the date though, just remember it was during the first part of "bowseason" so I know it was October.
I firmly believe if I had one cigarette tonight, I'd be smoking three packs a day again by next week.

Congrats Mark, it isn't easy to quit.
I quit on the same day that Kennedy was shot. no connection there but I started a new job on that day. About went nuts.
My wife quit much later but it was too late for her. She died of COPD and congestive heart failure and was 'way overweight and sedentary.
I'm a PITA former smoker. I will NOT go into any place that is 'smoking' The American Legion Post is next door to me but it's a smoking post. I belong to a post that's 15 miles distance because it's non smoking. I don't need second hand smoke and I won't be a 'good ole boy' to put up with it.
I like smoker friends but I don't like smoke.

Good on you Mark. I quit 17 years ago. Other than marrying my wife it was the best thing that I have ever done for myself. I have some very good friends that smoke. It pains me to watch them slowly killing themselves. Quiting is not easy but then again it is easier than dealing with all of the terrible side effects that the smoking causes. When you are a smoker it is hard to remember what it was like to feel good. As a smoker you get that nicotine hit and it makes you feel good (or so you think) for just a little bit. Waking up feeling good is not something a smoker feels. They only feel good after that hit. I know. I was there. To be a slave to nicotine, alcohol, or drugs is not something that I am interested in. Addiction is a Terrible thing.

I'm an ex-smoker. Quit Jan, 3rd, 1995. One of the hardest things I've ever done...but glad I did.

I always thought it was dumb to smoke. Most of my friends started in their teens. I didn't start until 22 while in the Navy drinking with buddies. Looking back at it, that was DUMB. Within a year I was a full time 2 pack a day smoker. Even did Skoal Bandits while working. Quit off and on several times. Gave them both up for good in 2003. I have no desire to smoke again now, but I have no doubt I could get hooked again if I did. It is a terrible habit.
