Hello folks,

Just a quick question. Has anyone here boxed up an IS trunk and shipped UPS? Whoever has done this please provide costs. Reason I ask is UPS has quoted about $600 to ship roughly 750 miles.

I am thinking they are slightly confused.

Thanks for any help you provide.

I think they are highly confused. Get a box pack it up in it and take it to them. Probably around 40 bucks tops. They charge by size and weight. Someone there is smoking drugs.

For what it's worth, disassemble and combine what you can to reduce the size of the needed box.  Taking the trunk off the mount hardware is a big help.

And fully insure it for 125% of actual value.

Go on line with your shipper of choice AFTER you have size and weight specifications. And like Jess stated-over insure AND pack it like yer shipping eggs. RIDE SAFE.

I found it fits nicely into a dryer drum box. You might call up some of your local repair shops and see if they have one.

I haven't had a claim with UPS but I have had an experience with USPS, not good. I shipped a new Interstate tank several years ago and it got lost in shipment. I went to file a claim and they wouldn't do anything for I think it was 90 days "to give it time to show up".

After the waiting period, even though I had insured it for above cost, they started asking for documentation to prove it was worth the insured cost. While this was going on (several weeks) the box showed up in the Atlanta lost mail storage warehouse and was returned to me. It turns out that part of the shipping label had been scraped off. They obviously never looked for it until the claim became "active", a big box you know.

I don't know, but I suspect that other carriers might be the same way. If that's the case, paying for more insurance than you can document is a waste. :cooldude:

Needless to say, since that time, I always cove3r the shipping label with clear packing tape for protection.

I understand.  Thus I only suggested going over 25% (25 per hundred).  On a lot of used stuff, this is well within the standard wiggle room prices of parts being sold.

And if settling down to 100% happens, then it happens.

In any event, never insure for less than fair value, if you insure at all.  I've mailed a lot of small items with no insurance at all, and have not been sorry (or burned).

More fun to ride the 750 miles then remove from the bike and, and.......well you get the ideal.
