A few used (but usable) brake pads.

A used (but it still worked) control box with the start button.

An eBay starter relay and enough of a pig-tail to fudge together a road-side fix (maybe).

A brand new set of levers I bought cheap from a cut-out bin.

I'm not sure what else might be down in there... tire fixing stuff...

Some (not all) of the aforementioned, plus a kickstand bolt and spring and extra bulbs packed in a hard plastic crushproof case.  Zip ties, velcro, gorilla tape (and glue), small JB Weld kit.  Permanent mount lift is a good idea.  I also have one of those small jump starter/flashlight/emergency flasher/power station gizmos I'll probably toss in a bag.  They work!  Fired up a dead battery on my Ford Ranger this past winter so I could get to Wal-Mart and buy a new one.  A few of each size of these (electrical repair with a cigarette lighter).

A cable repair kit.  I'm sure there's a couple things I've forgotten.

Little tool box with various tools and parts. Including bearings, plug kit, compressor, metal valve stems, plastic retainer, duct tape. I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but the only thing I've ever used was air pressure gauge and duct tape. I've taken the u-joint before but it's heavy and I took it out.

Generally the only parts I've found I've ever needed and carry with me are Harley parts to help those down and out on their luck. 2funny

couldn't help it.

I do carry, usually for the long trips, tire plug kit, air comp, tool bag, headlight bulb, laptop and spare key.
With the cell phone you are just a call away from roadside assistance. So the days of packing for breakdowns are not over but not so important. Still need stuff but you can, at least in most cases, get stuff where you are at in a fairly timely fashion. Unless you are planning some kind of trip where there are no services.

I'd rather save the cargo space for items to deal with the actual trip. Weather gear, clothes, water, snack food, sunscreen, and such.

I have spare parts labeled in boxes in my garage. I keep a list of those box labels in my phone. I can call my family or a neighbor and have any of those boxes shipped to me overnight.

if she decides to crap out I learn new and exciting curse words.  2funny Kick stand bolt and spring shifter seal tools fuses air compressor tire plugs credit card and cellphone. Wire ties tape and I also carry 4 new  1 inch ratchet straps case I git towed and the ones on the roll back look sketchy. If I don't have my trailer with me my clothes go in a dry sack/stuff sack and git strapped to the bitch seat. Spare and a jack for the trailer. Guessin on a long or short ride I should carry the old brake and clutch levers with me 'in case"! At least two kick stand pads. NOT tools but very important-selection of sunglasses/safety glasses and selection of gloves. I have other "stuff" I'm likely fergittin ta rekemember.  Lips Sealed RIDE SAFE.

8 of us are renting a cabin in Blowing Rock NC, first week of June.

I'm going to pack an extra Valkyrie. Smiley

Actually, my brother is going to meet up with us and bring it to GA.

All I carry is tire patch/repair equipment, OEM tool kit, a small socket set, cell phone and credit card.

My right saddle bag has my tool bag which takes up over half of the bag. I fill it with our rain gear. My other bag has hats, bandanas, gloves, guns, and a sweat shirt or 2. I leave it half empty to add stuff 'on the road'. All our clothes go in a luggage rack luggage bag. I do strap leather jackets and skid lids to the saddle bag lids.

Our 17 day trip this yr we are only taking 3-4 days worth of clothes. I do have a receiver hitch that I'll use for small stuff in a tote.

Not really trimming down, just sending one down to GA so it will get ridden and making some room for any project that pops up.  Roll Eyes

Nothing to do on any of them, so looking for a winter project maybe.

-Alternator (I've never needed one but have helped out 3 riders so far)
-Throttle Cables
-U-Joint
-Kickstand spring/hardware for kickstand
-2 Cover sets for the petcock (I don't know - just have 2 in there)
-Mushroom Plugs
-Rubber Cement
-Electric Air Pump
-Full set of wrenches
-Breaker Bar
-Socket set
-Flashlight
-Hex Wrenches
-Multimeter
-Honda Spray Wax and Dessert Topping
-Clymer Manual
-Fuses
-Zip Ties
-Headlight Bulb
-Rachet Strap

I think the more stuff in the bag (the right saddle bag is nothing but parts and tools) the less like anything will go wrong.

If I had to carry as much crap as some, I wouldn't ride at all.
That's fearful thinking and takes the joy out of riding for me. I maintain my bikes well, Check valve stems and tires prior to every ride, things I can't do myself I pay for. My towing card has saved me on the side of the road more than once. I don't care to turn wenches in the elements. much rather do it in my garage, or towed to a shop. But that's just me I'm sure some would rather have a vehicle follow them with every part imaginable. But that's what makes this world interesting, we all have different views cooldude

Kinda with Tundra on this.  I don't carry a lot of parts that have weight and size and MIGHT go bad someday. Like a U joint and bearings.  I do have such parts at home base.  But wouldn't care to replace them on a road trip anyhow. More inclined to arrange for the parts to be replaced if needed by a local source, or if it's not too far to transport the bike back and do it here. Preferably with my truck and trailer.  Also I try to eliminate known problems like the petcock with a better soln like a Pingel and/or a Dan-Marc. Better tires like Austone; dbl darkside. Metal tire stems installed. I do carry a bit more than a basic set of tools, and consumables like light bulbs and fuses, electrical repair stuff, a charger, tire plugs & compressor, air gauges, multimeter & test light, jumper wires, elect tape, wire nuts, shrink tube, strap wrench, socket and combo wrenches, vise grips, Channel lock pliars, needlenose, wirestripper, Victorinox Swisstool and Champion knife. Mini-screwdriver set, hex wrenches, screwdrivers. Fire extinguisher. Tow strap, several bungie cords.  Microfiber cloths and spray detailer. Flashlight and head-mount light. Siphon hose (note I modified Jade with an extra petcock and other fuel mods that make it easy to share the large fuel quantity on board - belly tank.  That mod was needed on a road trip to GOTF immediately after installing it.)  I keep the bikes maintained and do needed service before leaving. Also my bikes all have my permanent lift adapter installed. Have manuals & docs on my phone and often have the laptop with - came in handy for reading the schematic for Misfit's problem at the GOTF this year. I usually have one saddlebag dedicated to the bike (tools & kit). There's plenty of other space for other stuff - especially if I bring a trailer. Like others I'm forgetting stuff here.

Sgt Marty, on his road trips on his KLR to the Arctic Circle, then to Tierra del Fuego, had his wife as support at home base.  He had multiple breakdowns for which she shipped his parts he had here.  That was quite the adventure - beyond MY scope.  He posted a running road report while enroute - great read.  The report here: http://errant-ronin.com/PrudhoeBayUshuaia.htm  Google "Sgt Marty KLR" for more on his efforts.

Actually, a lot of parts will only take up an inch or two of the bottom of one saddlebag.  Alternator, takes a little more. I take more when I am going with other Valkyries.  Do not think I have been on a single trip with others when my "parts bag" has not been used.

The Honda Wax Dessert Topping is a joke we would tell at our monthly meetings when we had door prizes, which usually had a couple of cans of the spray wax as prizes.  Inside joke, I guess.

I have never noticed the weight of the tool bag causing handling problems.  I have ground pegs on both sides and performed a lot of slow riding maneuvers in the Ride like a Pro session with no issues. So the answer is no.

I've not yet had to use parts from the bag.  But I've been the supply house for others I ride with.  Try to get an alternator on a Saturday afternoon or a u-joint - can't be found at 99% of the dealerships and there you are, stuck on the road until a part can be ordered and delivered.  If I could just put the spare tire on and go to a local auto parts store and get the parts I need to continue a trip, the bag would be empty.  Such is not the case.
