I rode today. Not long. Not far. B U T I rode. In about ten hours I will have my new hip. I rode today , and the pain was getting worse as I rode. I turned and headed back to the garage/shop.
I rode today. Dr. doing  the surgery said I should be back on the bike in two weeks. That is 15 days from today.  BUT, I rode today.

The emperor has no clothes

Best of luck with the surgery.  :cooldude: 15 days seems pretty quick.

Yes, best of luck with your surgery, Ross!

And you're going to be at Inzane in one month? That would be amazing!

Sounds like the best way I know to get ready for a chunk of surgery.

It hurts like hell to ride.... so I'm getting the SOB fixed.

I hope your Dr is sober, and it all goes well.   ;D :cooldude:

Best of luck to ya! I do understand, as do many on here, the nature and extent of your addiction. Looking forward to seeing you at IZ...

I can see that there will be a great bookend story to tell in  a few weeks! Prayers sent for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Karen

Good luck, Ross, praying for you, C U shortly!

Ross, wish I could ride up and join you on a ride to Montana. Two weeks is doable if you're up and about soon after. I'm a left side mounter and my right hip was the trouble maker so at the end of two wks. it was still a little tender getting my leg up and over. But....I was able to get on using a slightly different method. I'd stand next to the bike and raise my right foot up behind me and onto the seat, then slide it over as I slipped onto the seat. After another 7-10 days it was a non-issue, it's just the anterior method really stretches muscles and ligaments pretty good....kinda like a sprain. Good luck.  :cooldude:

Thanks Dennis, for the update. Very glad Ross is doing well!

Willow

Good to hear he's well.

Like the news on the clean saw.  Not good to be fourth in line.

Tailgate Tommy

Very happy all went well! Thanks for the update Dennis.

John Schmidt

Good to hear, glad he was first in line this morning. They don't always change blades with a new patient if they're pressed for time. It's all in the interest of saving time and money.  ;D  Keep us informed on his progress.

Glad Ross is doing well. Thanks for the update, Dennis.

I can't believe these surgeries have gotten so routine that we're discussing them like an Indy pit stop or something. "He came in for a splash of coffee and a right side knee! The crew was masterful and got him in and out in 2 hr 10 minutes. He didn't even lose a lap, folks and should be in Billings in 4 weeks!"   :uglystupid2:   :2funny:    :cooldude:   :D   ;D

Good news for Ross.  Thanks, Dennis, for the update.

Seems to be more and more pain and restricted movement as we age.

Good (and funny) analogy Russ.  ;D

What's not as funny is, I think I'd trust a pit crew on my car more than the medicos on my body.

Who counted the sponges and forceps?  I thought you did.  Check it off anyway, it's probably OK.

Don't forget to add that pair of forceps to the bill, those things aren't cheap.

Hey nurse, did we use one saw blade or two. I can't seem to find the first one.....oh well, it will show up sooner or later.  ;D

Yes, they're fast these days. I was taken to the OR at 12:30pm, in my room by 2:30. Called the nurse at 4:30 to help me use the bathroom so she came in and stood there and said "well honey, get up and walk in there." Then handed me the walker.

Hope all goes well Ross fast recovery the riding season is here and I want to show you the GL1000 in all its glory, runs better and better the more I ride it. Taking it to work again tomarrow Thursday, then up to Choppers to show it off again. Talk to you soon.

NewValker

Ross, hope ya healing up well.  I rode with Hook 2 days before my hip got done, then it snowed for 2 days! I waited longer than I had to before I hopped on. Before surgery I was eating 4 oxys a day to ride. Now absolutely no pain & no oxys and damn does it feel good to ride again. I forgot what pain-free riding felt like   8)
hope you're in the wind soon,
Craig
Turns out not what or where,
but who you ride with really matters

Thanks to all.  I came upstairs earlier and slept in the extra bed. It is a lot higher than our regular bed. I passed out as I did not get much sleep last night. The nurse was here to check on me and then the physical therapist. My wife said I went in at 8:05 and the Dr. was out talking to her at 8:35. The nurses say he is done in 25 minutes.  There were 7 that I knew of that morning scheduled for hips.
My upper thigh is very sore as they stretched the muscles to cut the hip ball out. He used a round reamer to set the new socket in place. They cut the ball off and hollow out the leg and insert the new parts. The incision is glued shut. My neighbor is a retired ortho surgeon and has a hard time believing I am walking with full weight on the new hip. No bone paste or glue was used. The therapist said to use the walker for balance and put no weight on it.
