Places you may not thought of.
Wyoming - South of Billings between Lovell & Sherridan in the Big Horn Mtns is A big Medicine Wheel. My wife is part Indian an had asthma real bad but wanted to see it and she did the 1 1/2m walk back to see it. There is a small camp ground just west of and up in the Mtn but do not try to pull a trailer up to the top as you'll come own the hard way.
Cody Wy. Should have a Rodeo and does have a impressive gun museum.
Take your pick western S.D. or N.D in the town of Lemon there is a full city block of Petrified wood (which has turned to stone). I seen in a couple pieces you'll actually see wood yet.  I have a 35lb piece I found years back while Antelope hunting which looks like chipboard crushed to gather, its pretty cool.
Pipestone Nat. Monument in Pipestone Mn.on the western edge N.E. of Sioux falls S.D. is a place where they make peace pipes out of stone. You can watch while Indians mmake them by hand.
Havre MT. Has a place where you can see underground stores,  opium parlors, sweet ladies of the night. We missed this on a trip.
The International Peace Gardens between the U.S. & Canada on the boarder north of N.D. , always wanted to but not stopped there.
Anamosa IA. Has the National Motorcycle Museum which is really cool.
Opps, last at Teddy's Nat. Park by Medora , western side of N.D. on Interstate 94 you can see wild horses if you've not seen any.
