GA, SC, NC, TN, NC, SC, GA.

About an 800 mile 4 day trip.

There were 7 of us going but Keith's 175,000 mile GL1800 fuel pump crapped out the day before departure.

5 of us met in Cumming GA and headed on back roads to Cashier's to meet Mike, have lunch and then grocery shopping.

Weather Friday was terrible.

We saw some of this

Some of that

Some of the other

Lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Cashiers was good.

Chicken soup.

We managed to distribute this among the bikes.

Lake Glenville. It's on my lottery list for a home purchase.

Vital supplies were unloaded. The silver flask contained Russian Standard vodka and the orange container a bourbon which mixed well with Coca-Cola.

Can't buy these in GA or NC. Friend brought these from Illinois.

Duffy and Steve did a great job preparing Friday's dinner.

Saturday morning was cool and clear.

We had all bought heated gear with us but none was needed. i had my heated grips turned on for the ride up and over the mountain passing by the BRP.

The original plan was to have breakfast at the Pisgah Inn but I was reminded of the diner at the intersection of 215 and 276 so we skipped the round trip to the Pisgah Inn.

The diner was empty which filled me with poor food dread but it just we where there before the breakfast rush.

Here's the route we followed. About 240 miles.

Starting in Waynesville.

South on Hwy 276  TL Racoon Rd TR Ratcliff Cove Rd

STOP  TL Poison Cove Rd     Stoplight TR Hwy 23 Bus   TL Blackwell Dr towards

215 / I 40     Stoplight TL Champion Dr     Stop Light TL Thickety Rd opp Ingles

CROSS I 40 straight becomes Crabtree Mtn Rd    Stop Sign TL   Stop Sign TR Hwy 209

TR Hwy 63 New Leicester Hwy     TL Old Leicester Hwy  1002

TL Stop Light Old Hwy 20    becomes Jenkins Valley Rd     becomes Fletcher Martin Rd

Stop Sign TR     Stop Sign TR      Stop Sign TL Hwy 251 Old Marshal Hwy

CROSS Bridge     IMMED TR   Lower Flat Creek Rd     TR Lower Flat Creek Rd

IMMED TR Lower Shepherd Branch Rd     CROSS Hwy 70

becomes Shepherd Branch Rd becomes New Stock Rd

Stop Sign TR Jupiter Rd     before I 26 TL Old Mars Hill Rd

Stop Sign TR UNDER I26      IMMED     TL By BP Stockton Rd / Old Mars Hill Rd

TR Beach Glen Rd     One Lane Bridge    TR Paint Fork Rd  becomes Hortons Creek Rd

becomes Prices Creek Rd   Yield TL     CROSS Hwy 19     TL Cane River School Rd

TR 19 W     TR Piney Hill Rd      TR 19 W CROSS TN State Line

TL Hwy 352 UNDER I26     Old Asheville Hwy     TR Hwy 352

CROSS NC State Line     becomes Hwy 212     TL Hwy 208

TR Hwy 25/70     TL Hwy 209  to Hot Springs    South Hwy 209

CROSS I 40     TR Hwy 74 to Waynesville.

Piney Hill Rd is a hoot. Not smooth but plenty of elevation changes with one of the sharpest switch backs I've seen for a very long time. A full size SUV wold not be able to make one of the turns without crossing the center line.

The front porch of the rental

The view from the front porch

Dinner Saturday was a simple affair. We'd eaten well in Hot Springs for a late lunch.

Dusk Saturday.

Sunday morning and it's raining.

We also have to fix the problem of a bike with a bum rear tire.

Mike 1800 black Valkyrie kinda remembered Schroaders in Hendersonville may be open. http://schroaders.com/ Closed Wednesday and Saturday.

Once the rain faded away we had to ride 20 miles to get internet service and to determine if they had a tire available.

Woo-Hoo they did. Another 30 miles and Duffy with credit card burning in his hand is taken care of as soon as he gets there.

Pretty soon we are back on the road with Duffy's wallet a tad over $400 lighter for the Avon and fitting.

A year ago one of the guys  had suggested riding to Chimney Rock/Lake Lure. So being close by I took the group of 5. Mike had left us at the spot where we'd got internet service. He needed to head home ready for Monday work and we were headed in the opposite direction.

Chimney Rock/Lake Lure was busy but we found a good Italian restaurant overlooking the western tip of the lake.

Grilled chicken with Mediterranean salad and not one piece of iceberg lettuce. cooldude

After lunch we headed north to Bat Cave and then followed Hwy 9 to Black Mountain. Gas stop and a quick blast on I40 to Asheville/Tunnel Rd.

Onto the BRP and it's a sight seeing parade. The quest for a tire may have saved us from a number of stress attacks. The original plan was to ride to Mt Mitchell and then to Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley. I think the lolly gaggers would have driven us crazy.

Saturday Duffy and Steve served pork chops with asparagus and jacket potatoes. A fine culinary service by both of them all weekend.

Sunday morning was clear and we steadily headed to Clayton GA. Steadily because most of the supplies in the photo above had been consumed. I'm pleased to say that no one succumbed to drinking the charcoal lighter fluid.  Evil

Lunch in Clayton and a zoom across country to north metro Atlanta got us home with only a few small rain drops marring an otherwise dry riding weekend.

I'm glad Duffy got fixed up  cooldude

I threaded a tire on a rainy afternoon at Murfreesboro with Smokin' Joe and a bunch of
others. We got to the Murfreesboro Honda shop, and they fixed me up quick, and with
the best tire I've ever had on the 1800. It cost about $400 there as well.

$400 seems like a lot when you're used to $175 or so from Jake Wilson, but I just
think of the extra $200 as my share of the facility full of parts and employees that
were there to get me back on the road.

I don't like to follow a GPS, but I was glad when Joe punched the address of the shop
in and lead us right there.
