I have a question...

I'm mounting a Givi trunk, and only have the small chrome luggage rack to mount it on. The mount adapter is quite a bit larger than the rack. I was going to just cut a piece of plywood and mount the adapter plate to it, trying to make it look as good as possible.

Is there a larger surface area generic rack that would work?

Thanks....

Bob, I haven't used a Givi trunk in many years. But I think a piece of aluminum diamond plate would look much better.

Aluminum plate or aluminum bar or angle.

Ace hardware has the bar and angle.

The angle is great for making lightweight brackets.

If you have the Honda rack it might not be strong enough. Mine is made by Jardine and will support a lit of weight.

The thick folded metal racks are stronger. Scott told me a story
about having a setup like mine when we were at the Arkansas InZane, and his
OEM rack broke...

If you have access to a set of I/S fender struts and the trunk mounts, look into swapping the stock rails for those. Then get yourself a piece of aluminum plate and size it to fit between the trunk mount rails.

(I'd have to mock one of these up to see if the plate is best positioned overtop the edges of the mounts, or if it should be positioned underneath and a filler panel used to bring the surface level with the mount edges.)

After your plate is in place, lay out the positions for the SW-Motech mounts (shown on Phil's Concours 14 Rack site)

and drill the required holes then install the parts.

I have Phil's racks on both of my Connies and run a Givi V46L with them. It's a very solid arrangement, even at high speed. You should be able to duplicate the concept on your Valkyrie fairly easily.

Thank you for all the replies.

BaggerJ, I just sent Phil an email to see if he has anything that would work...

I'll figure it out soon enough, not enough hours in the day...

Thanks again,

Bob

Bob,

If he doesn't have it in stock he'll design whatever you want. Phil is A+ with the Connie Gang.
