Yah, I know, it has been discussed to death already, but once again, AFTER 6 months with Progressive, they jack up the renewal come end of June for me by around 10% 'just because' with NO valid reason. I recently ended their snapshot device monitoring of all 3 vehicles last night and much to my surprise, got A ratings on 2 of the 3 vehicles with the 3rd a B+, meaning 20% discount on the 2 and 15% on the 3rd vehicle savings 'SUPPOSEDLY' 166 BUCKS savings on renewal as the email last night said. guess what? Is a crock of horse manure: I had to call since progressive website today did not show renewal amount which is due June 30th. Nice young guy said will be going up but could not provide the percentage, but I calculated it out and is about a 10% rate increase thus negating that snapshot discount totally since got 10% discount upfront participating in snapshot first 6 months. That 20% A discount using snapshot minus 10% upfront equals basically the 10% rate increase. EVERY single insurance company has done this to me including LIberty Mutual and Geico, among others, in last 3-4 years upon 6 month renewal with NO claims filed. Young guy said the rate went up 2x's in WI with Progressive since 6 months ago, thus the reason for the increase of which he could NOT tell me the percentage of both rate increases in March and come June 23rd. I am so tempted to carry minimum insurance limits in WI to NOT give the rip off insurance companies anymore money than I have to since NONE are loyal to me, just lining their pockets offering very good 1st 6 month to 1 year rates, but screwing me over upon renewal between 10-23% rate increase. What a bunch of a-holes.

I will never understand insurance company ratings either: our 2004 pontiac vibe with 105K miles worth 4K in value is same premium as our 2014 7 passenger V6 hyundai santa fe bigger SUV worth about 20K. Even our 2014 hyundai sonata BASE GLS model worth 14K or so is over 50 bucks higher in price in premiums than the hyundai santa fe same 2014 model year worth about 5K more in value. If I did not do that 5 month monitoring with snapshot devices on all 3 vehicles negating the 10% premium increase, I would be dropping Progressive ASAP for I will never be loyal to any insurance company any longer since they have not been loyal to me EVER with no claims filed EVER. I guess longevity with ANY insurance company is a thing of the past, long, long ago? For anybody that got screwed over with their insurance company upon first renewal, I say keep switching insurance companies until you find one that wants to keep a loyal paying customer = good luck with that one?

I bet my last dollar that even if I did NOT do snapshot to save that extra 10%, my rates would have gone up the same 10% as if I did not partake in the snapshot device program at all vs. realistically with not doing snapshot originally, it would have been a 20% rate increase upon this first renewal due June 30th and as you know, MOST customers would not stand for a 20% rate increase upon 1st renewal.
I have a call into senior mgmt. but going to just get the run around as I did with Geico and Liberty Mutual prior to Progressive am sure. thinking of calling up liberty mutual or geico and switching back for 6 months and keep switching every 6 months to another insurance company just to save money since loyalty to me is not happening so will not be loyal to any insurance company.

There are other companies that offer insurance also.

I shop at every renewal, which is once a year with my policy. Sticking with one company used to mean something, but now it seems like it means "sucker" if you don't check. I've also found that, armed with a competitive quote, my current company will match prices.

I pait that til I was 25, got married and rates dropped. Now I pay 98 bucks a month for a 2015 toyota van and a 2017 tundra. Plus about 17 bucks a month for the bike.

My rate on the M/C went up 10 bucks from last year-$288.00 up to $298.00 per year. My agent was there yesterday when I walked in to pay my bill and I queried him on the increase. He informed me that last year-2016-state farm lost 8 billion-yup with a B-8 billion dollars. He also stated that state farm insurance is the rooster of the walk-his statement-and WHEN state farm raises their rates everyone else in the game duz too. WHAT-you think they gonna GIVE money away? Kinda like o care-whether or not you use it you gonna pay fer everybody else that are using it! RIDE SAFE.

I've been with Markel American Ins. Co. for a number of years, long enough to no longer have a deductible. My premium has slowly dropped and the last two years it was $136 for a one year policy. That's not minimal coverage...it's full coverage with an extra $5k added for extras. I had more extra coverage in the past but as the years pass the only way I could retain the higher figure would be via an inspection and the cost would go up per year, I guess due to age of the bike and add-ons....and possibly the rider. Markel Service Inc. PO Box 906 Pewaukee, WI 53072-0906 Or give them a call: 800-236-2453

Spent almost 30 yrs as an insurance adjuster for Allstate insurance. They told us that do to the way commissions with agents were structured they made no money for the first 5 yrs on a costumer. When I retired they had made a lot of changes with agents and that my not be true today. I have had Allstste insurance on my cars since 1970, Also have insurance on my bike and boat. I have had very few claims but have never had a claims problem. I suppose it's because I understand insurance and what to expect. When I worked for them Allstate gave you a DISCOUNTED rate when a loss occured the discount was taken away. Thus a rate increase. Most companies today offer low introductory rates and now say won't penalize you for accident as new sales pitch. Stared out as auto adjuster ended up heavy property loss adjuster, house burned down had to deal with me. I had very high authority. I wrote the checks. You delt with me, no one else. In my experience with claims it was always a dollar lost a dollar paid. Many people demanded more that what they had and in every case I was involved in a complaint it was always for something more than what they had or a miss understanding of polocy coverage they had. Most complants over leaky roof. They waited till ceiling fell in and roof rotting before making claim. Just keep in mind about making an insurance claim, insurance covers an event, an event is something sudden and accidental , beyond your control. Example tree falls on your roof caused a hole in roof, if you fail to protect it from further damage and could have patched or covered the damage and leave it leaking, resulting damage could be denied. People today shop for best prices, I have never done that. I call agent and generally get review and competitive adjustment if warranted. Agree there are some tough companies out there though.

Please, please, please if you are going to tell us how cheap your insurance is YOU HAVE TO tell us what your coverage is.
Without that the price you pay is worthless information.
Plus of course there are many others factors to take into consideration.

250/500/250K with full extra other coverages. It really does NOT matter how expensive or cheap my insurance rates are. My whole point is the last 3 insurance companies past 3 years have all jacked up my rate between 10-20% upon first renewal giving me a sucker LOW rate and do the old bait and switch crap come first renewal time just to get me signed up initially thinking I am stupid to just go along with their NO REASON absurd price increases.

Mine isn't minimal neither is it as high as Cookies. With it I have $250 deductible on both Comp. and Collision. However at this point, the deductibles have been reduced to zero due to the length of time and no claims. As for extras, I reduced it to $5k at this point in time, half of which would be the leather work alone which I can get a receipt for at any time. My total premium for 2017 is $133. The annual discounts do add up, such as Renewal, Safe driver, Safety course, etc.

The annual discounts do add up, such as Renewal, Safe driver, Safety course, etc. I have even a 1K deductible on collision (I figure if under 1K or say even 1500 tops, I will not run an accident thru insurance and just pay myself since does not take much to be 1K in repairs nowadays) and 500 deductible on comprehensive. My guess is most of you do not have age 16 and age 18 drivers in the family. Before my kids were able to drive age 15, my rates NEVER went up 10-20% upon first renewal, they remained steady and some 30-40% cheaper as well per car for 3 cars (was around 200 per car now over/around 300 per car). The last 3 years, still accident free no claims, insurance carriers still do not give a crap they just see age 16 and age 18 drivers on the policy and ram their overinflated AFTER 1st renewal rates up my _ss! I am thinking of going 100/300/100 lowering coverages across the board should help just a tad until kids out of house since over 1 grand now every 6 months in INSANE. It should help some, but what really pisses me off is the 1st renewal rates for NO REASON at all last 3 carriers in last 3 years have gone up 10 to OVER 20% being suckered into low rate ONLY at inception. Before teenage drivers, it was around 400 bucks cheaper for 3 cars every 6 months, that is a TON of extra dough out of the wallet.

I probably should explain....that insurance figure is for the bike only. The car and home insurance is a package deal, the auto portion for one vehicle is $1k annually. It has slowly gone up like everyone else so I'm looking around before the end of August. Our problem is my wife hasn't been able to drive for about six years, but her driver's license was renewed a couple years prior to that and expires in 2018. Our insurance company knows she can't drive but since she has a valid license they won't leave her off the policy. That costs us a bit extra. At present, I'm looking at USAA which I found out will quote me as the only driver, stating she's not covered as a driver due to medical issues even though her license is still valid for another year. Only thing that bugs me is the auto policy is only for six months, which I found usually gives rise to an increase at six months instead of a year. I presently have AAA, the only issue I have with them is their billing practice. I always send more ea. month than the minimum and the extra should be paid 100% on the principle. They don't do that, they figure the extra also pays the next month's payment fee in advance, then applies the extra to the balance. I've argued with them enough over the years so now just want to move on, even if it costs me a bit more. Just curious, does anyone have experience with USAA, has it been good or bad?
