About 9 weeks ago, I won an online auction for a surplus HumVee. See photos at

http://www.govplanet.com/for-sale/Humvees-1994-AM-General-M998A1-HMMWV-2-Door-Soft-Top-w%2FTruck-Body-South-Carolina/872263?h=5000%2Cq%7C872263&rr=1&hitprm=&pnLink=yes

I'm still waiting for my End User Agreement to be processed by our wonderful federal bureaucracy, but should hear something in the next 3-5 weeks. Then get it shipped to Indiana.

Does anyone here have any experience with them?

My plan is to play with it for a few years... unless I can flip it for double my $$ or more, and buy another. Then give it to my now 10 year old as a high school commuter / 1st vehicle.

Yeah. I called the BMV here and they told me that as long as I had a bill of sale, and an affidavit from a LEO stating that the vehicle serial number/VIN on the BOS matched the one on the vehicle, they would title/plate it no problem. We'll see how that goes... Roll Eyes

Very very cool find.  I do not know much about the 6.2 diesel but I understand the later models which yours has were quite good and simple.  I have owned a couple and still have a chevy express 6.5 diesel that are very reliable.

I drove and rode in them when I was on active duty. They ride rough, are loud, and hot inside
But, they do look cool going down the road.  They have a fair bit of low end grunt but don't seem to like highway speeds so much.  Fairly indestructible but I would guess maintenance (unless DIY) will be pricey

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Looks like to one we have on the FD. Kind of weird to start. Getting it into 4x4 is different to. I think you hv to put it in N, shut it off, engage it, restart, and put it in drive. Something weird like that. I do know the guys said if you try it will moving you will ruin the drive train. We have not gotten ours stuck yet when other trucks have. I think we paid $1 for ours.  Wink

If that was the video of Your truck sounded like it fired right up. The 3 switch cluster for the lights the lower left switch lever broken off. Looks like the original price in 94 was $47000.00+. Again if pics of your truck tires look fair. Our Police dept here in Willow Springs has something similar and I notice they don't seem to use it much when it gets 30 degrees F or cooler.  Lips Sealed Was that picture showing wood?? where the metal rusted out? RIDE SAFE.

The link was to pics/photos of the actual one I bought. 3921 miles!! Yes it started. No, it's not perfect... but I feel like I stole it for $7100. Tires look OK. I can't figure out where that hole with the wood chips is... but they don't RUST really... they are aluminum.

It should be fun. I think I can make $$ on it too really. Especially if I can get it titled like I think I can.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

I had 12 of them when they first came out.   Never drove one and to be honest, didn't want to.   Being a RW pilot, my butt belonged in a helicopter, not riding as co-pilot in a Hummer but, from my observations, they will go through about anything.   Wide tracked and pretty powerful.    Would be an interesting vehicle to have in one's stable but replacement parts might be expensive.
