The freshest thread I found on this subject was 2011 so I thought it was overdue.  I just finished putting up about 1800’ of 3 board ranch fence at the farm along with a brick gate entrance.  I picked up the gate just north of Tampa last week, a 12’ aluminum powder coated that weighs 105#’s.  Mighty Mule makes the least expensive one and it’s the most popular among homeowners.  I’m a big fan of over engineering and over building everything, but how much is enuff?  A 100# gate is a lightweight considering most of them are iron.  Here are the 3 entry level models from Mighty Mule:
MM260   300#      $218
MM350   550#      $309
MM560   850#      $414
Also considering Mighty Mules Pro line, GTO Linear Pro.  They offer the SW2000 model, rated for 500#’s but has more metal than plastic, bigger motor, quiter and faster by 15-20%, better warranty for $540.  What are your thoughts?

I know without pix, it never happened so here are a few of my project.

Wow, nice job, and nice property.   cooldude

We have an amazing amount of that fence here in VA horse country.  By long tradition, and often by ordinance, it must all be painted either black or white.

Damn, that would make me paint my fence glow in the dark yellow just to be a rebel.

That's OK Rob, you couldn't afford the property.   Grin

Neither could I.  The way they work it, these huge properties are never allowed to be broken up.  Stay in the same families for generations.  Or sold off to some millionaire.  Robert Duvall has a big horse ranch out here.... somewhere.

Tradition is big in VA horse country.

If you painted your fencing yellow, they WOULD come after you, and win.

Sorry for the drift Jerry.

Damn, Jess. I never realized you lived among such aristocrats.  Smiley You are correct, I couldn't  even afford the fence. Much less the property.

4 to 5 years ago I installed 3 of the MM500 series gate openers. They have worked like a charm.
I used the MM500 because of the length of the gates (18 foot and 15 foot) not the weight and the daily cycle capability.

The only thing I have replaced is 1 limiter switch that stopped working and the batteries on a regular 2 or 3 year cycle.

I believe the key is to have the gates level and free swinging and lube often.

All three of the gates were installed on a private club property with 200+ members, so they are used more often than a regular residential gate.

Horse people and their fences...

They ran all the rebels out of there 160 years ago  Roll Eyes
