Years ago the bleeding hearts didn't want the poor ickle snakes harmed.

Then it took the government years to realize they needed to do a study on the effect of the snakes.

By which time it was - TA DA - too late.

We find them on the farm once in a while. Largest so far was a little over 8 feet.
Over in Cape Coral they are now dealing with Nile Monitor lizards in the canals.

How about the snails ?

Carry disease eat stucco shells will blow out a tire

I predict they will NEVER rid the Everglades of pythons

I had heard a few years ago the Florida Python has the potential to spread up into Georgia and even Tennessee.  I hope they get rid of them all, but I bet you are correct.

Dan, you are right. The pythons are here to stay. There's just too much acreage in the glades for them to hide.

Seems to me that a bounty year round would encourage more captures and could actually give some folks income.  Nothing wrong with annual snake rodeos, but why not a pay per snake program?

We can't understand why the hunt is held in the cold months when the snakes are laying low.

Was that a decision made by a government agency?  Grin

Don't  forget  the iguanas,  there's a 3 ft one running around the back of the house I'm  working on here in the cape. There is a bounty on them to . They are over running gasparila  island in Boca Grand. Not as dangerous as the monitor or python.  Smiley

Question for those in the Sunshine State since I only return to visit a few times a year. Can you find any native wildlife other than the 'gators? I left 20 years ago and invasive species were already outnumbering the local flora and fauna then.

And of course the skunk ape which is more than a match for any gator, python, or overgrown lizard.
