It really is amazing you don't hear of more accidents like this. Although you would think that people would understand the dangers of getting too close, I was a little surprised the first time we did Yellowstone at how minimal some of the protection was around some of those areas. Obviously you want it to look as natural as possible, but with the amount of people visiting there and some being of the "not so bright" variety........
My wife and I spent a full day riding to all 4 corners of Yellowstone several years back...it was a great day. I even managed a little fly-fishing for an hour or so on a couple of the streams

So much to take in there...the geyser basins and outlying pools, etc were outstanding...more impressive than Old Faithful. We managed to park the bike and walk up just as OF was starting to "spout off". A definite "gotta see it moment", but the old guy must've been tired that day
