around 10 years ago out at Custer in SD I saw the head honcho main black bull bison face to face 1 foot in front of us eye to eye snorting in our vehicle.  What a sight to behold.  NO damage to the red SUV we had at the time, but got lucky the bison did not ram our car for our young daughter at the time SCREAMED at the top of her lungs 1 foot when the bison eyed her eye to eye and snorted loudly.

I had our cam corder at the time with us, but shut it off, wish I NEVER did that since would be a video to keep for life.

I went through Yellowstone a few years ago on the Valk. Before going, I worried about getting stuck in a line of cages when Mr Griz was walking close by. After having a very close encounter with a huge male bison while stuck in traffic, a medium size Grizzly (or perhaps a brown black bear) in the road a little later wasn't the least unnerving.

Bison are scary!

Taking a leak in the woods 30 yards from the road and noticing something had clawed the bark off a tree higher than I could reach did cause me to be pretty alert though.

You know what they say, you mess with the bull, you get the horn.

Anyone that doesn't respect the power and wildness of Bison is just asking to get squished.   My opinion, your's may vary.   But, I know which one of us ain't gett'n run down by a Bison.

Photos from 2015 IZ in Spearfish.

We waited for the cars ahead of us to get through the herd before proceeding, but as we rounded the curve, they all stopped to take pictures.  I guess the cagers must think bikers are so badass that the bison won't mess with them, personally, I used to be a badass, and i still wouldn't have stopped in the middle of a herd back then either.  Now I'm more half ass than bad ass.

Grin I'm more half ass than bad ass also. We had a similar deal that Inzane also. A group of us were stuck in the middle of Bison with cars stopped all jacked up in both lanes. It was kind of cool for the first 2 minutes but then as they kept pushing each other around closer and closer it got a little nervous. Luckily we all made it thru unscathed.

Been near bison on a bike once and I tried to stay near a car with the bike putting the car kinda in the middle. It makes you think when somebody Says they don't like motorcycles because they use bikes to count heards. I also worked with a guy from Montana For Month once and I commented about a guy that was killed by a bison because he tried to get close to take a picture and he got mowed down, I was told it happenes every once an a while that somebody gets killed because they think they can get a picture standing near one.
