97 valk, PO installed 1 1/4 "drag bars.. 8" rise,  I had to reach to ride,  I got two 4" pieces of solid aluminum, drilled them and installed them, the length from top of TT to bar is now 12", lots of cable, my problem is I find my self still reaching enough that after a 100 or more miles, my throttle hand starts to cramp, two fingers come together and wants to twist one way and my forefinger wants to twist another :)  soooo, reading various sites my conclusion might be I need different bars,,,, any idea as to what would be most comfortable,  I had a 98 Tourer a while back, OEM bars with 4" pullback risers and they weren't too bad, but OEM bars seem hard to come by... looking at after market, but not sure what to look for.. any advise would be greatly appreciated..  I would post a pic....if I knew how.......TIA.... ???

You can loosen the clamps and roll the bars backwards or forwards.

COVER GAS TANK WITH A FOLDED TOWEL. Just in case.

When setting the bars and/or choosing risers...make sure in your normal riding position...that your wrists end up straight in all dimensions...and your elbows slightly bent.

Get whatever bars/risers/adjustments you need to achieve that and you will be comfortable. The main key is the wrists are straight.
