"I'm proud of you!"

OK, so it took almost 54 years to hear it.  My Father's Day and Birthday presents came early.  Yes, this was enough to cover both, and then some.

Happy Father's Day to you all!

Father's Day usually causes me to reflect upon my dad.  He's been gone a dozen years now.  He grew up during the Depression, graduated the Salutatorian from high school and was trained as a Navy pilot.  The War ended just in time for him no not be deployed and he was caught up in the post war reduction of force.  He was a good man, a strong man in multiple ways.  He tended not to express himself emotionally very often but he sacrificed and gave of himself for his children both growing and grown.

Toward the end of his life, he outlived my mother, he was confined to a nursing home.  He lost the ability to communicate verbally and ceased to recognize even close relatives.  When I visited him during those days he usually say silently with what looked like a scowl on his face.  I was often concerned that he was disappointed in me.

My father was a better man than I will ever hope to be.  I am thankful for the gift of being born and raised as his son.

I suppose I am lucky that I got to be partners with my dad for 10 yrs before he retired.  This pic was sometime after he retired, maybe 2003 or so.

If you have heard of the story of Damon  (yeah our own Misfit has an awesomely strong name and IMHO he honors it well) and Pythias (the story of the Knights of Pythias) dad was a Pythian and he lived the code.  He suffered financial and legal setbacks because his word was his bond and I am proud to say his son lived to piss on the graves of those who harmed him because their word was less than worthless.

I know he was proud of me and I of him, what more is there than your good name and your family This week we are harvesting a quart of strawberries daily from plants he gave me before he died 4 yrs ago

link to story so I dont hijack this great thread
