Was out to Iowa over the weekend to spend some time with my 95 yr old Dad. One of the farmers that lived next to  him and was a friend of the family passed away and he had collected stuff over his lifetime  and now his kids are selling it. Jay Leno visited there last weekend and will probably attend the auction which lasts 5 days. The 29 Stutz is one of 3 existing and is worth 1 million by itself.

Wow!  Some great nostalgia there!  How the heck does a person acquire that much stuff?   Shocked

That's an amazing collection. I'll bet even Jay Leno will be drooling if he shows up. It's a shame that many of them weren't covered. How does a guy have all that money to collect the cars and then can't afford more plastic wrap.  Cheesy  Grin  Wink

Jay Leno showed up a month ago. He offered this farmer 1 mill for the Stutz blackhawk over 2 years ago and he would not sell it. Jay will be back for the auction I  am sure.

When folks put this stuff in their house, they call them hoarders, and make TV shows about them.

When folks put this stuff out in barns and outbuildings, they call them collectors.

Course, this stuff is actually interesting and valuable, unlike what the average hoarder stacks up in their house.

This must have come as a result of buying entire collections from others.  Then it takes a small army to fetch, sort, stack and store all this stuff.

This guy had been doing this all his life. He would show up at auctions all over the country. His son was in my class in HS and would run the farming operation while his Dad shopped. This guy also worked 18 hour days as a routine schedule. I would see his office lights on at 1 AM

The old quote comes to mind  " He who dies with the most toys wins, but he still dies"

Did he ever sell anything or just keep collecting?  I wonder if the picker boys, Frank and Mike have been their as they are a short distance away in the quad cities.  In any event this will be one exciting week for other collectors.

Remember, it wasn't that long ago that a ton of what are now considered Collector Cars, and classics were just used cars. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Back when I started driving cars that are now fetching tens of Thousands, if not more, were just used cars. Me and my friends had all the old Muscle cars. I remember buying a nice 69SS Camaro for a little over a grand, hell new it went for a little over 3k, I bought a 47 Knucklehead for $800.00 once, could almost add another 2 zeros to that now. Our used stuff are todays classics and antiques.
