Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: June 20, 2017, 07:57:13 PM »

                                                                No Geek Here…

I know… Before you say it, I do know… What’s more, I agree, too, that pictures would enhance my story posts, but there is somewhat of a problem with that… Between my fat fingers and my non-techno tendencies, I have thus far been unable to figure out how to post them.

I’ve spent untold hours dutifully following directions, trying this and that… All I have to show for my Herculean efforts are frayed nerves, a tired typing finger, and frustration the extent of which I haven’t felt since that fateful day back in first grade…

See, I had decided to just skip school following afternoon recess. Good plan, and I did get away with it… well, part of it. The school never missed me or reported my absence, but… This was before Santa Clause had brought me that Hopalong Cassidy watch I could have sorely used, and, well… I sort of miss-judged the time, and I arrived home well after the usual time…

‘You had to stay-in after school, didn’t you!”, my mother sternly inquired. “What were you being punished for?”, she continued…

“No ma’am,” I honestly responded… “Don’t lie to me, young man! Telling a lie is worse than acting-up in class! Wait ‘til your dad gets home!!!” What should I tell them? Now for a six-year-old, this was a pretty doggone confusing conundrum to confront! Well, posting pictures for me is every bit as perplexing…

I have started to take more shots of the incredible sights I’ve been cruising by lately. And, I am traveling with Troutdude (Dr. T. - more about that later); and, he does know how to make those thousand word substitutes magically appear in a post…

Perhaps we can negotiate some sort of tutorial arrangement… So, don’t give up entirely on me just yet… But, I must confess that the prospects do appear to be rather dim at present… I’m not optimistic.

It isn’t just the failures on this board that have been driving me bonkers, either… SmokinJoe has been after me for several years to get on Facebook and post pics there. He has assured me it is so simple, even I could do it… Not so fast there, Joe! Apparently, he doesn’t fully realize who he’s dealing with here…

He set me up on FB a week or so ago, when Troutdude and I met-up in God’s Country for the ride to InZane… Joe even went so far as to show me exactly which places to touch, press, pound, and curse, and stuff did mysteriously do as he said it would. When he did it, that is… A day later and nothing worked for me as it had for him!!! I got so frustrated, I ‘un-friended’ myself and loudly proclaimed that Mark Zuckerberg could KMA!!!

‘Dr. T’, sensing my frustration and extreme emotional distress, came to the rescue! He gave me a prescription, and I must state emphatically that it turned out to be just what I needed… and it worked a near miracle, too!

Several hours after we rejoined our sort of partially planned trek on a very nice route through Colorado the following day, we came upon the Red Rock Diner… and Apothecary… While Dennis ordered a more traditional breakfast meal, I ordered sweet tea to drink… and a double order of bacon, as called for in the prescription! Nothing else.

Yep, six slices of that wonderful gift from our Maker to us mortals… and a noticeable improvement in my behavior manifest itself immediately! That prescription is re-fillable, too! Ol’ Dr. T really knows his stuff, and I’m confident a full recovery is in my near-term future… Well, dependent upon whether I try to tackle tech stuff again too soon…

We haven’t started negotiations for that tutorial yet, as we both agree I should let my ‘medicine’ continue to aid me in recovery. This morning, for example, the motel provided bacon as part of its breakfast offering… Yep, a few scrambled eggs and one biscuit all covered with sausage gravy, and half a pound or so of that most delightful, curative, medicinal swine part… I’ve felt better today than any other day of our entire trip so far!

I’m not making any promises here… Heck, I’m not even willing to speculate on the prospects or however remote they may be… but… It is within the realm of possibly, though a stretch to say it is within the realm of probability, that one day soon…

On second thought, I’m not going to risk jinxing anything by actually saying it, but… you know… If you have a rabbit’s foot handy, you might want to stroke it some for the next several days…

"I got so frustrated I unfriended myself"  2funny That sounds like something I would do.  Smiley It's been one of my observations in life that one can never have too much bacon or biscuits & gravy.  cooldude Have a great ride my friend.  cooldude

As an old fuddy duddy I have managed to easily post pics on the 'other' site.  Won't go into detail but Joe is right.

As far as bacon is concerned. I deal with a small local meat market. They have the most delicious bacon!  Flavors too like coffee, pepper, and some I can't remember. Cut thick so that it doesn't eat like
tissue paper!  Their bacon is not wimpy.

As if that's not enough, their steaks are plus, plus. Eat with a fork Angus home grown beef.  The slaughter house (processing plant for those who are squeamish) adjoining the store, makes sure the Indiana grown beef is fresh!

Sorry, Bruce, i digressed.

Morning Bruce.  I am not going to hold my breath on that one.  But one good thing seems to have come of this, you said that you were actually taking some pictures.  That gives us some glimmer of hope that you might post some of them.  cooldude

I would be more than happy to post your pics for you if you just get them to me. I can, or maybe even Joe could help with that also. We could arrange to setup an account on a picture posting sight like Google or any other and I could post them for you. The VRCC has a limited sight but it would probably be easier to start off and learn a sight that you could consistently learn and know. You could explore and experiment at your leisure and get the hang of what you need to do, so you could do it yourself one day. If you are interested just pm me and we could get the ball rolling.

The "other site" will eventually be the death of the VRCC message boards.  I really don't like to see it advertised here.  Honestly I would rather those who prefer the "other site" just quietly go there and not drag anyone else with them.

Interestingly, additional picture posting option has been added in the lower left but almost no one bothers to use it.

This is the second time that I have been singled out, as far as I know, (off line before) by you.

I still have many friends here .

Willow,
I've been there and have seen the "other site". Even belong to the group. But, there is no comparison to the content here as well as the family. I often wonder about the folks who pose questions over there...... Don't you realize the wealth of information here????????

I think I misspelt that, it doesn't look right. Anyway, it's no big deal. Just a bunch of name calling and badmouthing. Maybe it was just that day, I don't know. Not for me though. I have enough drama in my life already, no need for more.

Wayne, it's a little late in life for it but perhaps growing thicker skin would be a good thing.

What I communicated openly here was because I wanted everyone to hear it.  No, you're not the only one.  You were the one this time.

I don't speak for the VRCC as a whole generally or for the thoughts of the entire staff unless I so indicate.

Perhaps I might suggest the same.  I do normally have a thick skin but, to me, it was personal this time.

We all should think about how something is received when we post. For example, you could've put across your point very nicely if you had left out my quote

BTW. I'm not sure how many times that i have paid for my participation to Inzane even though I didn't go.

Mark is bringing roughly $90 bucks worth of REJEX to Inzane for a giveaway as my freely given contribution to the VRCC.  I don't give any to (forum deleted) because my friends are here.

No matter who is not thick skinned.  As a councilman for 14 years I've had much worse.

Bless you Carl and Lori.  I hope that she is feeling much better and ready for Inzane.

Wayne, I think you are taking this way too personal. For the record, Willow has chastised me more than once. (I lost count)  It's not just you. I'm sure many here have been. We all want this site to thrive. Talking up Facebook and encouraging people to go there doesn't help us thrive. I doubt there is anybody here that wants you to leave. (At least nobody that counts)

Skin thickness aside, there is another issue at play here... innocent ignorance! That would be this poster who didn't think about the possible ripple effects of his own comments! My bad!!! FWIW, I'm not a fan of that other site, and I only visited there in a futile attempt to appease those who want pics of my travels...

Troutdude just gave me another tutorial on pic posting on our board, and I apparently have successfully accomplished that on another thread I created entitled "Test"... If that effort combined with the notes I took work out, then any reference to that other site will not appear in any future posts of mine...

Yes, Rob, I too want this board to not only survive but to thrive! It is a very important social outlet for me, and I would sorely miss it should it ever vanish... Sorry for anything I've done to cause a brew-ha-ha...

You did nothing of the sort. We collectively hijacked an innocent post of yours. Our collective apologies are in order for that. It's kind of reassuring hearing you say it is an important social outlet for you. I have to admit it is for me also. Which in itself is strange because I used to think of this kind of thing as strange in that people who talk on the Internet "need to get a life". But like the old saying " you know what happens when you assume". This club has broadened my horizons in ways I never dreamed of. I have friends all over the world because of it. I'm sure there will come a day that the VRCC just fades away. I hope it is many years down the road.
But back to your original post. If you learn to post pics great. If not, no big deal. You are a story teller. You will always be a story teller. As long as you tell your stories, I will eagerly await to read them.  Smiley

Thanks, Rob... I do sincerely appreciate you comments... As to your observations on the VRCC Board and its impact upon your life, I can only add a heart-felt 'AMEN'! I care deeply for our organization and for its members... Good folks who have enriched my life, and, like you, who have influenced my thinking... I truly am a better person than I otherwise would have been, had it not been for all that goes with belonging to this family. Thanks to you and all of the members who care enough to participate and keep our social vessel on a more or less even keel...

As a final note here, I am not 'pushing' the other site vs the VRCC and if that's the perception I apologize.

The other site, for me, has opened up the dialog between me and all of my relatives in NJ, Ala, Minn, and even locally. I no longer make phone calls.

The VRCC site is different, it  has granted me the ultimate in getting, having, and keeping good friends . Even with my Valkyrie long gone, my friends are still here, as I am.

Just as Carl has stated his opinion, so will I.  IMHO, the bond here on this forum is so great that I believe it will stand up to ANY new 'other 'forum.   I also believe that thinking otherwise is selling friends here a little short.  The plethora of information here between friends is amazing. That is my opinion.

As an added small addition, I have had complications from my surgery. For the last week I've had an unchecked urinary tract infection which , believe me,  no one here would want.  Maybe that had something to do with my 'testiness' or thin skinned as Carl described it, I don't know, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

After further tests, i am now on antibiotics and peeing is returning to normal.

Bruce, sorry to jiggle your excellent post here.

As Dennis would say  "Ride Safe".

Not much to add, except anyone that lets an internet site ruin their mood or day, and I do not care what site it is,, has other problems that need to be addressed. It's only a forum folks, nothing else. I love both and embrace them all. Both have drama.
Anyhow,, keep posting away Bruce. Your type of posts are certainly not found elsewhere and I personally look forward to them. Pictures or not.  cooldude
