Not so many people know that Custer thwarted Jeb Stuart attacking the Union line from the rear with repeating rifles that the Confederates didn't have at Gettysburg--Pickett was charging from the front and General Lee had thought the Union line would panic if simultaneously was attacked from the rear---at Little Big Horn those same repeating rifles were used by the Indians against Custer who had his troops armed with longer range shooting single shots--and every 4-5th soldier was used to hold their horses further reducing the firepower for an overwhelming onslaught

That is an old bumper sticker.

Custer got what he deserved.  Attacking villages and slaughtering women and children and old people just because you could not find the war parties on the move was a lousy practice.  He'd done the same thing at Washita Creek years earlier, then retreated and left a unit of his own men behind.  That is the principle reason the various tribes actually came together at the bighorn, and when they saw the dummy was about to do it again, they got understandably pissed off.

Unfortunately, he took a lot of good men with him.

In battle, charging to the sound of the guns can get you a big medal, or a court martial, depending on the outcome of the battle.

In Vietnam, Custer's men would have shot him.

You don't hear a lot about it, I guess that it isn't part of the mainstream media's agenda.

But, no ethnic group in this country has ever been screwed over more than Native Americans.

The terrain at the Little Bighorn didn't help him at all either.
