So they can finally have a gearbox that sounds like it belongs on a Harley!

Because Aermacchi is out of business.

Audi owns Ducati.

Aermacchi was the Italian manufacturer of the 2 stroke H-D bikes of the 70s (125cc, 250cc, 350cc).  But they went of out business in 2012.  Thought H-D might just want a new Italian manufacturing company to build ugly little bikes.

They lost a bundle a few years back after they bought MV Agusta and then faced a cash crunch during the recession.  They sold MV for a big loss.

Somebody in HD has a thing for Italian bikes.  I could see how Harley is afraid of the demographics of their traditional customers.  Plenty of them are on their "last bike".  Ducati has a strong brand name and the dealers could have another section in the showroom for something different and stylish.  They could draw in a younger buyer.  And the two brands are not competing against each other.  Some rich folks have both Ducatis and Harleys.

It's a chain bike. Didn't realize that. 180hp will kill that pretty quickly.

As with tires the action of the right hand has a lot to with chain life.

The ST owners whining about having to check the valves are either too hard on the throttle or simply repeating stories.

I paid to have mine checked at 16k. Did it myself at about 50k and didn't bother again. 135,000 miles at bikes fiery terminus.

The Motus has hydraulic lifters, one of the owners in the Jay Leno's Garage interview
said that some smart a** put "inspect every 100,000 miles" in the shop manual  Smiley ...

I've never touched anything inside my Valkyrie's motor, or inside the carburetors...
