Long time member here, but don't post much these days. Thought I would share a recent experience.

No, this isn't a racing story.... "My Valk blew off another Harley today...blah, blah...". I'm getting too old for those shenanighans!

So...anyway...my old Valkyrie was waiting for a new front tire (old one was bulging) and the weather was beautiful this past Sunday. Since she was away camping for the weekend, my neighbor said I could borrow her brandy-new 2017, 300 miles on the odometer, Harley Heritage Softail. So, what the heck...I did just that!

It sure is a pretty bike with it's 2-tone red paint and shiny chrome. The fuel injection is nice and bike seemed to have good power, but I didn't run it all that hard (since it's not my bike!). All-in-all it was "OK".

However.... I would NOT trade my 20-year-old Valkyrie for a 2017 Harley! Not even straight up!  laugh

Not gonna bash on Harleys, they are good bikes. They just don't trip my trigger. Besides, I kept looking down at the "big" Harley wondering where the rest of it was!  2funny

Got the new front shoe on the old fat lady last night and rode her to work today. Ahhhh...that's MUCH better!

No offense to the nice neighbor lady, but I don't think I'll be borrowing her new bike anytime again soon. It was sweet of her to offer though!  Cool

I tried that. She declined. I think she's either afraid it's too much bike for her or afraid she'll like it too much!  Grin

around here there are quite a few very good Harley riders

One zipped by me today splitting lanes on the Sprain Parkway as I was doing 75 in the right lane.  He had nice ape bars and was wearing some kind of club jacket.

I dont split lanes at that speed, its not worth either the ticket or the risks.  If I split its in a traffic jam and I am never going more than 10 mph on the beemer.  Wont even think of it on the wider Valk

Are there more posers?  U betchya but the ones I see in near freezing weather when I ride are all real good riders, same with the cold weather bmw guys

Either way glad you got to scratch that Harley itch and got it out of your system

Actually...I've never had a "Harley itch"!  2funny

I've done some service/repair stuff to the neighbor's Sporster that she traded in on the Heritage. So, I've ridden her 1200 Sporty and the new Heritage. The Heritage is WAY better to ride than the Sporty. I might take one if I won it in a raffle, but I would sell it and buy another Valk as a project bike!  Grin

Has ya did the nickel trick fer her?  2funny Friends I have in the P G R are on a Lot of H/Ds. At lights and waiting to move out I see a Lot of "stuff" shaking on the H/Ds. Been to the H/D dealer in Springfield Mo. and elsewhere and seen a fair portion of their new stuff with the first of 5 figures either a 3 or a 4. Course wouldn't surprise me none if one had the first figure a 5 or a 6. I'll keep my Phatt Ghurl thank you very much. RIDE SAFE.

I am renting a Harley in Salt Lake City this fall--only for a day, but am anxious to compare to the Valk.  I have only ridden a couple a Harley's and was decades ago.

the wife wants a Harly trike but drove the Polaris Slingshot and is sold!!

Friends of ours just bought a new Slingshot. I got to drive it the day they brought it home. I'm not a fan of the styling, but it is an absolute blast to drive!  cooldude Can toss that thing around corners like a race car. Very quick even with the small-ish GM Ecotech engine. Turn off the traction control and it'll roast the rear tire!

It's really a 3-wheel car (Illinois classes it as an autocycle), not a bike. But it is big fun!  Grin

the most surprising thing about the slingshot is how incredibly smooth the ride is---I was and still am wondering/thinking how they managed that....the local Indian dealer sells them and the wife wants to trade in her nearly $30k 2015 Chieftain in..that they will give $15k for with 6K on it.....so do I do that or sell the Valk and take over her bike?....the garage's and barn are bursting---3 shifter racing go carts --3 ATV"s...a RZR S w/800 miles..1/2 dozen dirt bikes..the 750 hp Ram Air "68 Firebird, XJS Jag convertible, Zo6 Corvette,ATS Cadillac--cool turbo 4 cylinder--Brembo brakes...Suzuki 650 GSX-for track days--VTX 1300r...my son was supposed to show back up...he just joined the Army....

Not particularly knocking the Slingshot but have had a couple encounters with them that, at least to me, shows how dangerous the thing is.
Going to pass someone on the highway and there is an oncoming car coming in the oncoming lane. Looks like I can easily pass the car ahead of me in plenty of time. Start to pass and realize it is a Slingshot and it is a lot closer than it looks. I slow up and tuck in behind the car ahead of me. Not close or anything but the oncoming profile is really hard to pick up. Even with the headlights. It kind of looks like a car farther down the road. They can be really hard to see. Particularly in traffic.

As to Harleys. Got to rent an Ultra Classic for a ride up the PCH a few years back. Pretty red one. Nice bike. Ran fine. Shook like an earthquake at idle but smoothed out at speed. Wouldn't buy one but if someone gave me one I'd keep it so I could buy the clothes. A little tight riding two up compared to the Valk.

Well, if you need room,  even though I do not have much left with 3 cycles and 2 ATV's with 4 cars total,  I will find space somewhere??? Roll Eyes

That is horrible spending near 30K on an Indian near new and only get 15K trade in totally sucks.
