There have been lots of highly unusual and very sad encounters with bears in Alaska this summer. Several maulings and a couple deaths. Bears are usually very skiddish around people and give them a wide berth, mostly because they are hunted there and have learned to avoid people. But this story has got to be the most unusual one yet. The young man is very lucky indeed.

We are going up to visit family in a week. I'm glad my wife doesn't read the Alaska news. She'd be freaking out !

I would say BLACK bears are skiddish

grizzly bears are NOT

Brown bears are more aggressive than black bears. But most of the time once they get wind of you will high tail it. There are always exceptions though.
