Serk had recently posted about them setting up the road with hay bales for the race. I hope he didn't break the 10 minute barrier with Kali on the back.  Smiley

I took a far more leisurely pace for Kali's sake, think it took me almost 12 minutes...

But seriously, having just done that road (And many other twisting mountain roads) my response to trying to ride that road like the very skilled rider in that video went something like this:

A good, clean run by that KTM rider; bike was running smooth, rider was locked in, road was fast, dry, weather was magnificent, and tires must have been set up perfectly.  Another Super Duke timed in at 9:49. The PPIHC is the premiere climb of it's type in the country for all classes of vehicles.  Same week of June every year (conditional on Colorado winter ending).  If you ever get the chance to attend it, do it because you won't find another one like it. cooldude

By my calculation that's an AVERAGE speed of about 75 mph.  He was reaching speeds on a curvy road that I don't even attain on a wide flat stretch.

Fast run.

Yeah, 125 mph on mountain curves doesn't sound fun to me. Especially going off the pavement a couple times.

That guy sure makes it look easy.

A friend of mine was killed riding his bike on Pikes Peak in 1983.

I don't know any details about his crash.

I do know that he liked to ride hard.
