Story I heard was that they were brought to Silver Springs Fl. when the first Tarzan movie with Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen Osullivan were  Tarzan and Jane.  They got loose or were let go in the area and have lived there ever since.

You should know better than that, the monkeys are too organized to be legislators. 

There once were monkeys in Boca Raton living where Africa USA once was (AKA Camino Gardens subdivision). The residents found them dangerous and destructive and the monkeys were all trapped and donated to Dade Metro Zoo. There were claims of monkey sightings for years after.

open season on monkeys? Would they be considered a nuisance animal? Are they protected by the state? What does monkey taste like? Would one feed a family of four? What caliber would be best to hunt these with? 12 GA 00 buck? So many questions

An invasive specie should have no season but somehow I think PETA and their ilk would put a damper on that quickly. After all, the Muscovy Duck is protected in FL and they are an invasive specie with no redeeming qualities. I used to aim my cage at them every chance I got since I wasn't allowed to remove them from my own back yard where they would nest (and poop and leave food and poop and stink and attack young children and poop). If I accidentally ran one over I would get a warning vs sticking a few grains of lead in one and getting a healthy fine from the local magistate.

Yes, and, they need to be answered.

Now granted it were a long time ago and I wuz a Lot younger BUT I ate BBQd monkey in the P I. Drunk or sober as I recollect it tasted fairly good. NEVER once got sick on it. Sides the little gal that did the cookin was pretty as could be!  And for those that have been there-Paulines wuz only couple blocks away. Baby ducklings anyone?  RIDE SAFE.

In the early 70's I was going to college in Boca Raton.  I had a part time job at the little airport near the campus.  When riding my bike to work, I used to see monkeys in the trees along this old dirt road on the way to the airport and I always wondered about it.

I lived in Silver Springs and later Ocala for many years.  Those monkeys have been "culled" many times.  But,  they are a resilient population ... and  quite prolific.   Tours on the famous glass bottomed boats at Silver Springs would not be complete without spotting some of them.

...and yes, they are nasty little buggers.

If I had any kind of animal invading my property that was being destructive and threatening it would die of lead poisoning or find itself impaled by an arrow.

If that were frowned upon by the local constabulary I would just keep a shovel handy.
