V A no help and even when I price "affordable" dentures here in Missouri I cringe at the prices I'm quoted. I git my meds and medical care from the V A and have no complaints. Here's the rub. Had I been injured-mouth/jaw-in combat while in Nam my teeth or lack thereof would be taken care of by the V A. BUT I was NOT injured in combat. Does anyone here have a line on affordable-read inexpensive dental insurance that will not tax my limited income? Would like to be able to enjoy celery again-apples-well you git the idea. As Always-T I A fer any and all help and suggestions. RIDE SAFE.

Were I in your position, I'd look into Mexican dentistry.

Your not alone,I need dentures but have to get by with less than half my teeth. You can get a dental discount card but it only gives about 20-30% off. Caps and dentures still break the bank. I would never even think about implants,$5000 each.

Insurance may not cover anything that is considered cosmetic.
I have a mouthful of veneers [ paid for myself of course] . Now I'm told the radiation would cause them to start failing. They are right, 3 in 6 months. They haven't gotten any cheaper either.
Now I'm having new silver and fluoride treatments to help save them. Guess what, thats not exactly cheap either.
So, I don't have an answer for you.

Heh... my brother was living in Alaska and had some tooth pain.
He was quoted something close to 3K for a root canal. For 1.8K he flew to Brazil and had the job done (including some good time in a beach).
Go figure.

I don't know if dental ins is like health ins. One major problem with health ins is the inability to purchase across state lines. I'm thinking dental may be the same, but, I'm not sure.

My Fiancee is Romanian, We went over there last summer to visit family and while there we went to the dentist. She goes to the dentist on a regular basis whenever she goes to see family. I had my teeth cleaned and a full exam, that alone took all afternoon. Had a full set of X-rays, including he Pana-Flex set, had 2 teeth pulled and a filling. Cost me $125.00US. That's less than the X-rays alone and an office would have been here. She had a cleaning and 2 root canals done, with caps, along with the X-ray sets, she spent $175.00US. As an added bonus, the Dentist was HOT. The equipment was as state of the art as anything here in the states. It costs less to get a plane ticket over there, stay a week or two and get your dental work done, than it costs here locally.

Heard very similar stories about Poland. If you have expensive or extensive work to be done you could come out ahead financially by having the work done in Poland and enjoy a little vacation to boot. I have NO experience in doing this - just sharing a couple of "stories" I've heard recently. YOUR experience could be totally different but it MIGHT be worth looking into if you need that much work.

Changing the subject a bit. I've been hearing about medical procedures/surgeries in Europe, especially Germany, that exceed ours and are far cheaper.
A family members very young daughter needed heart surgery and insurance here wouldn't pay due to her age and it would cost in excess of a million dollars. They went to Germany and had it done for less than $20K and the girl is fine.
A friend [ roofer] has bad back problems and cost here was excessive and insurance co was giving him problems. He went to Germany had the operation which apparently was dome completely different than this country and he jumps around like he was kid again. The surgery cost/trip him $80K which he is trying to get from his insurance co which of course is refusing.
Another friend needed knees. He found that Germany [again] does knees completely different than we do. Apparently they draw blood and do something to it then inject it into the knee. This friend found a doctor in Buffalo that was just starting this procedure at the time and went to him and had it done. It been 4 years now and his knees are still fine. Because of the newness of the procedure the ins co wouldn't pay.
Now I'm reading about cancer treatments and how differently Europe is doing them. I'm wishing I had researched this and maybe taken a trip.
I'm beginning to think our health care is not as good we think it is.
