Just went through the classifieds. Is nobody buying used Valk Interstates anymore?

I'd buy that, cept I already got one.

It seems the market for all motorcycles is not great.  Maybe the inter city scooter market is good, but that's about it.

For still being summer bike sales seem to be way down.  Goldwing GL1800 sales on a couple sites I follow are down too.  Some guys having to really discount their bikes to get ride of them.  Almost winter prices in the summer.  I know several Valkyries that have been for sale for a while.  They seem to be worth more than what they are going for.

I'd love to have a black I/S like the picture, but wouldn't have the $$ unless I sold my current Tourer. It has a fair amount of changes and I would change out the bags, tank, front fender and side covers so I didn't have to pay to have the pinstripping done all over again. I'd Supervalk it so wouldn't be using the trunk either. I have a trunk set up for my current ride, it's an adapted GL1100 unit....cost a lot less than an I/S unit and looks sharp. But, it's set up to sit over the rear axle so not corider friendly without some work.

PS: I'd be keeping the leather work as well.

Andy,
I am in the market for a clean low mile (25K to 30K) Interstate in the $6,000 to $7,000 range. I started on the search when I began to notice that there were numerous bikes that fit what I was looking for at that price range on craigslist and ebay.

I started my research as I normally do, and what I found was very interesting, and frustrating. The price of the 1500 Valkyries has come down considerably, and if they are not priced accordingly, they will not sell. If they are priced by today's market, not for the sentimental value or what bling was put on through the years, they will sell.

POINT;
Doing a search on ebay for Valkyrie Interstate sales, round numbers, I could have missed a few but you will get my point.

11 listings SOLD for an average of $5,200
That price includes the  $2,800 and $3,100 bikes that were listed, along with the cream puffs. (none of the bikes listed had more than 82K miles)

16 listings DID NOT SELL, and the average listing price for them was $8,100
(A couple of them listed 4 or 5 times at the same price.)

I have found that the bikes that prompted me to start looking for a low mileage cream puff have long since sold, and the ones that are over priced are still sitting there waiting for that daddy deep pockets to come along and pay their price.

I have a blue Interstate with 82K on it that needs nothing. Newer tires, new U-joint, new rear bearings, rear end service, etc. I have it listed on craigslist for $4950 and have only had 3 calls on it in 3 weeks, SO, I have to make a choice, lower the price, or keep it.

It's a tough market, many folks having hard times. Many kids are returning home with parents or not leaving at all. The younger generation is saddled with debt out the gate and for most motorbikes are not a need but a want. Many kids are more techie now and don't even have the want/desire to ride. They rather play video games. The original Valkyrie owner generation is getting too old to safely ride with various health conditions setting in.
It's certainly a buyers market for used bikes and the higher priced bikes will not sell. I believe the Harley bad boy generation is about to fizzle also, the younger generation has no interest and are not bad boys. The younger generation that I see riding are leaning towards sport bikes and adventure bikes...I think?

Agree with every statement you made.  And this will be a long time trend.  Great market to pick up a bargain, bad to sell for what the value use to be just a couple of years ago.  Even Harley sales are down 10 percent.  I lucked out and put my 2013 V Star Tourer up for sale 2 weeks ago after I got a low milage 2014 Victory Cross Country 5 weeks ago at a great bargain.  That V Star sold in less than a week for a hundred more than I paid a dealer last Feb.  But it was the right person wanting to buy at the right time.

Jim

saw your immaculate blue/silver I/S on craigslist,  looks SHARP.  If I was in the market for yet another I/S, yours would be at the top of my listings not only due to condition, but also low price.

And yes, the younger generation is not that much into motorcycles, thus the low sales, as well as no disposable income.

I am looking for an Interstate. I didn't give the black one pictured by Andy a second look. It doesn't have the rear seat or top box on it. Call it what you want, it's not an Interstate any more, especially after deleting the fender rails and what ever else. To me it's a Tourer with a bigger gas tank.

A friend told me the dealers are looking for bagger bikes to flip. Maybe some one on Craig's  List would be interested.
