I signed up for e-mail notices from NASA that tell me when it goes by in my viewing area.

First time in over a year and a half I was able to see it.

Usually, it's over cast, or to low in the sky, or to early in the morning for me to catch it.

She cruised right by, very bright, in about 6 mins.

I go to http://www.n2yo.com/ .  It gives real time location and will tell you the next time it will be visible in your area.

My Spousal Unit monitors and watches for this.   She gets all excited and rushes outside to watch it fly over.   I did go out and observe it once.    But, that's all the excitement I could handle.   Wink   She won't let me go out there any more, she didn't think it was funny that I was mooning the folks in the station.

It is cool when you think about folks living up there, I just thought I'd give them another "Moon Shot".    Wink

Thanks! That baby sure is fast. Watched it in the country, no stars yet. And clear sky's.

How fast does the Space Station travel?

http://coolcosmos.ipac.caltech.edu/ask/282-How-fast-does-the-Space-Station-travel-

The International Space Station travels in orbit around Earth at a speed of roughly 17,150 miles per hour (that's about 5 miles per second!). This means that the Space Station orbits Earth (and sees a sunrise) once every 92 minutes! You can see the ISS' location and speed at this link which also has a real-time video feed from cameras attached to the outside of the station.

National Geographic magazine just ran an excerpt from the book "Endurance" by astronaut Scott Kelly (twin brother was also an astronaut) about his year in space aboard the International Space Station.
Fantastic descriptions and opinions about our planet, space exploration, and life.
I plan to read the whole book as it's another (current) historical perspective of why we should try to save the human race (i.e. planet earth) instead of pushing it to extinction.
I also see that a movie of the book may be in the works.  That would be good.
