Naked Ladies in my Front Yard

They've bloomed out in August.  We usually see them in the Spring.  Mama says they're also called surprise lilies because you never know when they'll show up.  I reckon there was a time when that was true for naked ladies as well.

I saw several of those yesterday at my parents neoghbors. I was like, what the hell, thought those only bloomed in early spring. And yes,  we call them surprise lilies also.

Rams

My Spousal Unit has 8 or 9 of those in our yard.   She calls them Surprise something.

I'm not very impressed.   I like Sunflowers....

After raising four girls and all their friends, this type of naked lady is a refreshing change.  ;D

Actually, I knew what you were talking about. My little old German grandmother was quite strict and when I once referred to them as you did, I got a good scolding.....in German I was told "those are Surprise Lilies, I have nothing naked in my garden."  Whatever you say granny.....which prompted another scolding; "I don't like to be called granny."  Sheesh!!

Roidfingers

I get some of those sometimes. Just don't look like that. They in yard and knocking on the door. LOL. I don't answer.  At least when they like that. Don't need the drama.

I know we are having a humorous thread and I don't want to get to serious but your story reminded me of something.

Four years ago I was brain injured and one of the effects was to cause me to be rather totally open and honest.  I've been long healed from that, of course, but I have retained some of what I believed I learned during that crippled time.  We have been taught culturally, and not our culture uniquely, that the way to get along and do well is to learn when to deceive and pretend.  Among those pretenses is being taught that there is something dirty and wrong about nakedness.  I accept that there is a time and place where nakedness is not right but it just isn't as universal as we were taught.  I had a friend that was so impacted that she would not undress in front of her husband and insisted that copulation always take place under covers.  Lust is wrong.  Nakedness is not.   ;)  In being taught what is right and what is wrong many of us have been pushed unnecessarily toward the wrong.

Interestingly the young woman who taught me the name of those flowers was one of the most uptight and modest of any I've known.

I apologize for the drift but I did think John and maybe two others would appreciate the observation.

Lust is wrong ? Man, I've been wrong most of my life then.  :o

I agree about people being indoctrinated about nakedness being bad. Myself included to some extent.

Jess from VA

Nakedness used to be more reasonable when we were young and looked good naked (maybe not good, but not BAD).

I'm reminded of Rodney Dangerfield who said.... me and wife tried making love with the lights on, but when we took our clothes off, we just couldn't stop laughing.

Hell to be honest, I have had lust for half the women I've met. I don't act on it, but I don't know how you would not think about it. I've even lusted over some motorcycles.

He probably won't go down as our greatest President. But he was probably the best "man" we've ever had for President. A couple different turns of history, and things could have been much different for him.

To be clear the term lust is often misused.  Lust is not attraction but is a desire to take or own something for oneself.  In simple terms it is often characterized by "I would take that if I could get away with it."  Hopefully not as many men who think they do lust for their own wives.  A loving relationship should be more an issue of giving rather than taking.  Lust is wrong.  Sexual attraction is natural.

The whole concept of being ashamed of ourselves because we don't look as "good" as we once did or as someone else does tracks back to the deceit and pretense, trying to show ourselves to others as being something other than we are.  It illustrates the original thought.

While I was injured (there is still debate) I learned the concept of, "This is what I am.  If you like it, that's great.  If you don't I can live with that too."  Were I found unexpectedly naked I would cover myself over some respect for the other gender but there would be no embarrassment on my part.

I agree with Willow's comments re. nakedness. I know as a child it was frowned upon by all the adults around me, especially my Sunday school teacher. She...of the hair bun in the back, sleeves down to here, and skirts down to there. Most of those lessons drifted away by midafternoon the same day. My wife is probably the most open person around me that I've ever known, and it's reflected in my own actions, some of which she could probably do without. Example: A few days ago she was still in bed and I was up and changing into my day clothes....all the while singing offkey "let me entertain you." She started to applaud so I suggested she hold the applause since I hadn't even started my act. Her answer....."I know, that's why I was applauding." ;D  I think I had been properly zinged!

As for lusting after something or someone, to me there's a huge difference in lusting after someone as compared to simply appreciating their beauty. Over the years I've had the privilege of being in the company of many a beautiful woman, and would be the first to admit/comment on their beauty. But to lust after them....different story. Even my wife wasn't someone I lusted after prior to our marriage, but during the courtship I enjoyed her company immensely. To me she was beautiful, once married....oh baby.....different story all together. Let's just say we were extremely compatible!  :cooldude:

As for my little German grandmother, she was born into the existing aristocracy of the latter half of the 1800's. She had been "properly" schooled at home and according to her, not one hair was allowed to be out of place when one presented themselves in public. In her later years, she was loudly exposed to "little Johnny" whereupon some of her stiffness left and thankfully, none of it rubbed off on me.  ;)

Oh I agree completely Carl, I have little shame about my body (and live in a pair of shorts and shoes all summer); any modesty only comes from respecting others' feelings.  What I was thinking was about the comments on not posting naked photos here (of old people lol).  Not only is it trouble for the forum...... no one could stop laughing.
