Our 20 year old cat passed away this morning. My wife has had her since she was new born. I didn't care much for the cat but my wife is pretty upset about it. She use to weigh about 18 poumds and the last couple years she lost all her weight and was about 5 poumds. We still have her mom, she is 21. Didn't know cats lived that long. We buried her out back under the red bud tree. I thought our boys would be more upset than they were.

Sorry for your family's loss. I like cats. I find them to be calming in nature. I still miss an old tom cat I had back in the 70's. He was my buddy.

We've had a total of 6 cats -
1 brother / sister rescues - she made it to 16 before she developed a blood clot, he made it to 19 before a tumor stopped up his breathing passages. That last night was really bad.

2 brothers and sister - we got these from friends who couldn't take care of them (we were going to take 2). One tom survived heart trouble and a thyroid tumor so far (he's our miracle cat), the other tom had renal failure and passed about 6 months ago. The female has been fine so far. they are about 14 years now

1 stray - left outside our house. Not sure if he was left by momma cat or neighbors. He's about 8 years.

When I was still over the road we had an orange tiger stripe we brought with us to Missouri from Colorado. When I was home and after everyone else-two daughters and the wife-went to bed Go Cat would stand on the floor in front of me lookin up thru my crossed leg and meow Very softly. THAT was my hint to put the leg down he'd git up in my lap I'd recross that leg and he'd fall asleep purring. In the morning even IF I wanted to sleep in I couldn't cuz he'd be layin on my chest meowing-NOT softly!  2funny Called home one day and Wife told me he had crawled up on the corner of the porch and died sometime during the night.  Cry Been nigh onto 13 year ago and I STILL miss that wurthless furbel.  Undecided And I have yet to replace him. RIDE SAFE.

Sorry for your loss,

I have had many cats and they are great to have as pets, since they dont require the care that a dog does. Some will say that they are very independent and sometimes that is true but each one has its own personality and some you just love. My first dog was a great dane and he was such a good dog  but I still prefer cats.

I had a stray that would come to the office and after a year we got to a point that in the morning, I would open my door and he would come in and lay on the desk to be petted and watch the computer screen with me. One day he did not come and I got worried and sure enough I found him dead on the side of the road and it broke me up.

When I was a kid we buried "Tom" and the family was sad. Tom had been hit by a car. A couple of days later Tom showed up meowing outside and we were all excited and hugged and greeted him like a king! Never did know who that imposter was??

I used to love it when one of my cats would bring a mouse to the front door and play with it on the landing, of course it would eventually break and he would lose interest. Fairly recently I was walking on the side of the house and there was a rat head with some innards attached. There has a been a black cat around and I would say the rat was about 8 inches in length without the tail from estimation. I must say its nice to have the population controlled.

I also have a Yorkie and he has helped me get some rats also. He would start sniffing around the area that they were and I would know that there was a problem there. Once he started to sniff I would start to remove things and eventually would come to the little critter. I knew they were rat dogs but was surprised when I guess his heritage kicked in, he probably found 3 or 4 and of course I had to kill them.

Sorry for your loss, they are family. My adventuresome little guy, Harry, has taken to getting on the seat of my Majesty scooter when it was parked in the driveway. Tonight, he jumped up to the passenger seat after I shut it off. He ran away when I restarted the engine. Time will tell, I may have a new riding buddy soon!

My sis had a Siamese that would pester the dickens out of me whenever I visited her. One time while sitting on the couch I realized one throw pillow had something inside, she told me it was a vibrator that went off when pressed in the middle. Just needed a couple D batteries. I dug up some batteries and installed them, then laid the pillow on the floor in front of me. The cat finally walked up, sniffed, then put his front feet on it. No vibration. Next he had all four on the pillow...still no vibration. Then he sat down in the middle of it.....VIBRATION! I swear that cat levitated straight up then shot out the door, never to be seen again during that visit. A few months later I was back, the cat spotted me, grabbed that pillow in his teeth and disappeared with it. He came back shortly and started pestering me as usual. cooldude

The problem with kittens; they become cats. "The Cat That Walked By Himself" by Rudyard Kipling explains our relationship with cats very well.

Cats an more cats. We have a few ferrel an then for a long time allowed one in the house , then I found two alive yet just a day old or two that were abandoned on the long grass across the street crying to cling onto life so I gave my wife the choice of me having to kill em or her needing them. Now they are Around 14 -17 lbs.
Now a also have coons, them dirty b's. 3 years ago I trapped 42 in the back yard in about 1 1/2 months. It was hilarious I could write a book on it. Iast year I don't think I set a trap.  This year I had to set the trap on an off and not for a couple of days now. Well about 10:45 tonight I see I'm now going out for blood as I see 4 of them sobs I the back yard, the trap is now set! Boy I miss my whirehare.

We have had cats and dogs ever since we were married. We got our first cat about two months after we got married 51 years ago, that's lots of pets. Now any cat we have is indoors only. Lost too many to cars and who knows what an it keeps them clean an free from filthy vermin outdoors. We even lived in an RV for a year with three cats an never had any problems.
