Need Help with IS

I recently got a 99 Interstate. Doing a number of mods and running into several setbacks.

First, I hate to admit it, but I can't figure out how to remove the retaining strap on the battery box. The Clymer manual is useless on this.

Second, can't remove the screw on the rear fender. Need to take it off for mounting a Mustang seat and the 3/16 allen wrench won't work. It's like it's stripped.  Any ideas on what I can do to remove it ?  Tried grabbing it with needle nose pliers - won't budge.  It's in an awkward position and I can't drill it without removing the trunk ( rather not if I don't have to ).  Any ideas ?

Are you asking about #17 or #15?

The allen bolt is a metric, size I'd have to look up, but if you have the OEM tool kit, there should be one in there.

The battery cover on my Interstate has the radio attached to it. The whole thing lifts off together. My Standard has the rubber band over the cover. As to the screw on the seat. It's not uncommon for someone to have stripped it out, and then added a nut under the fender. Look up in there with a flashlight and see.

The rubber strap, if that's what he's asking about, goes right over the battery on the CF and over the cover on the C/CT

The IS seat isn't bolted down.

Unlatch the seat at the lock and lift off. That is, if the seat strap isn't holding it down. I haven't seen one on an IS yet, outside of the OEM pictures.

I had no problems taking OFF the stock seat.  I am trying to put on a Mustang seat, and it uses both the screw in the back, and the two screw holes in the middle ( towards the front of the fender. No problem with the two in the front/middle, just removed the rubber/plastic covers and found the two M6 screw holes.

The one on the back is the one that's a problem.

I assume it was metric but I don't seem to have a wrench that would fit it. Not sure if it has been replaced by the previous owner or not. Will look at the original tool set as mentioned and see if one fits, otherwise I guess I'll have to take off the trunk to be able to use a Drill with a Strip Out set.

The OEM bolt in that location is a 6mm-1.0. Head is hex. An 8mm wrench or socket fits it.

Put a mustang on mine and didn't have any problems PO must have done some thing to yours.

So you got the battery strap off?

The stock bolt holding the two rear fender sections together is an Allen head on the interstate while on the Stn/Tourer it's a regular flange bolt.

The mustang seat for the interstate mounts like a OEM stn/tourer seat because it's two parts.

With the trunk in the way it's going to be tough getting a stripped Allen head out.

Well, just in case anyone is interested, I finally got a chance to got to Lowes and bought a full set of Metric Allen wrenches, as well as a set of Allen/Hex head sockets (just in case).

I had ordered the OEM replace screw so that when I did get it off, I could replace it with one that won't cause any future problems.

Well, lucky me, I was able to get finess/force that screw out. It's amazing what you can do with the right tool. It took the #5 wrench in the set and with a lot of pressure, and of course the pre-requisite cussing, I was able to get that thing off of there.

So, now I can easily get that beautiful Mustang seat bolted in !!!!

And speaking of lucky, I found a Utopia backrest for sale that the owner tells me works perfectly with the Mustang Seat.  The seat I got is the 2 piece Wide Touring with Studs but no backrest, It also has the matching piece for the passenger that I have already installed.

Talk about lucky.

So now it's on to wiring in the PC-8.

And after that, it's finding a home for the new Clarion 1410 Class D amplifier I bought. I have already managed to take off the inner fairing/ speaker covers and I am looking in the Shop Manual (just got one) to see how to take off the windshield and front fairing so I can fabricate amount for the Clarion in that cavity.

Chrome W/S lower cover has two phillips head or JIS head screws 0n the backside that hold the chrome cover thingy on. Then there are 4 bolts in front at the bottom that were covered by the chrome thingy. The chrome thingy on my I/S has Honda printed stamped embossed on it. Thingy-technical term.  When you put those speakers back in the fairing use a touch of anti seize on the reinstall of those screws. Comes to help here fer our Ladies this board Do rock. RIDE SAFE.

OK, this is an attempt to learn how to load a picture.

I read that I just need to create a photobucket account, load the picture there, and click the IMAGE icon here. Then paste in the IMG data from photobucket.

You have to reduce the size of your pictures to load the to Photostash, which is a process all on it's own.

I use Irfanview to do that.

There are other 3rd party web site to host your pictures, but I can't help you with them cause I use Photostash.

Someone will step up with a suggestion.

I'm not near as smart as my friend from Massachusetts. I could never figure photostash out.   But my friend Wiggy patiently schooled me on Photobucket.   Then they screwed things around and my friend Serk posted up this. Even I was able to conquer it. (Well, more like sneak thru the widow)

Paint in windows will resize your photo, no photo  editing software required (like irfanview or gimp).

Resize the copy
Make a folder and name it "Resized pictures"  store your resized pictures in the new folder.

Hey, I have that color combination! I finally put her together enough to take a short spin the other day. Listening to the radio rather than the Cobra pipes was a huge improvement but there is a long way to go before I am done with the Girl. The IS has Mustang seats that will become Ultimate seats before I am finished with her. The green and cream tourer has been seeing all the miles this summer, not that there have been all that many this year. Just one quick trip to Denver in May and local runs ever since.
