Yup feel good story of the day the outstanding taxes were 14.00$ a year and when the notice was sent it was 995.00.

Not me. I would think even in a gated community that the streets would still be owned by the city.  Do Fire, Ambulance, Police have to pay a toll ?

The report says the tax bills were sent to an accountant that hadn't worked for the Home Assoc. for nearly 20 years. None of the residents were apparently properly notified of the pending action.

I think the sale will be rescinded, the back taxes and interest billed properly and paid, and a bunch of lawyers will be making payments on new boats.

In some states and cities, gated private communities are responsible ($$$) for their own streets. They are not public and the public does not pay for them.

I guess all I can say is only in California, seems like they tax everything there.  It is not the responsibility of the taxing authority to check if they are sending the tax bill to the proper address, that falls on the homeowners association.  Legally I don't see how the can reverse it.  Unless of course they have a Judge in their pocket, then it seems you can do anything you want.

 Private streets are not uncommon. The street that gives me access to my apartment is privately owned.  The city provides no services.

As a result, the street has potholes and the snow gets plowed last by a private contractor.

The good news is that technically the LEO's can't ticket us for speeding. (not that I would do that with the Miata.)

I grew up on the end of a one lane private road.  It was in bad shape, and the speed limit was 5mph.

Kept most of the riffraff and looky-loos out though.

That was my first cycle training road too, though a bitch to turn around on.... so I used the grass.   Grin

Had to walk the half mile to the bus stop too (that sucked in Winter snow and ice, but it wasn't uphill both ways).


If I had $90K to blow, I'd love to buy it, and then set up a tollbooth and charge Nancy $50 a pop to use it, cash only, no credit (nobody else, just her).  Watch her head explode.   2funny

There are many privately owned streets and roads in our area.  They are plowed by the towns for safety so a fire engine or ambulance can travel them, but maintenance is up to the owners.

The towns will sometimes do minimal repairs so the plow trucks avoid being damaged.

Most are owned by a association, that people that live on them, pay dues and/or annual fees.

There's too much money on that street for this auction to stand.
