Warning, this could get a little graphic.
Yesterday (last night) everything was going smoothly, So I thought.
Hmmm. A long weekend.
My catheter became clogged. How did I know this? My eyes started floating. I had been instructed to do this, "The solution is the dilution of the pollution" In other words when wearing a catheter, drink lots of water. I did that but now that water had no place to go (pun intended).
My son took me to the high rent district, the local Parkview Emergency Center. After a lengthy paper writeup, the ER doctor came in. Solution: irrigate the catheter to clear the obstruction.
The assigned nurse, Melissa, did just that. It took awhile and was mildly painful. A suitable amount of blood clots were disposed of and the doctor pronounced me fit to go (again, pun intended).
My son brought me home. I gave him a nice reward, a bottle of ginger beer, the alcoholic kind, not ginger ale. It was about 8:30 pm. We grabbed a light late snack from Arby's. I decided that midnight was to be my sleep time.
It was so nice to empty the catheter bladder again.............but wait, there's more! The bladder was empty and MY bladder was getting full. Not the way it's supposed to work, especially after a high rent irrigation.
A wait was not in the cards, my bladder was telling me. Now it's 10:30PM and I must make a FAST run of seven or so bladderful miles back to the ER. This time I drove myself.
80 plus MPH and I'm back to the ER. Good thing that they had valet parking, i didn't have much time for walking.
I was recognised by the good folk at the reception area, I told them about my reocurring problem and needed to see the doc NOW.
One of the nurses started to fast walk me back to to exam room. Not 50 feet down the hallway, I felt this growing sizable lump on my right thigh. The cath bladder was so full it resembled a tiny football.
I veered into the nearest bathroom and opened the clamp. Immediate relief!!! No need to go to the ER now, the fix was in.
However, I was persuaded to have my bladder and the cath irrigated again. This time twice irrigated and 30 minutes later, twice irrigated again. Lots of debris cleaned out this time.
Home again at midnight, with a double charge of the high rent district, and all means of sleep obliterated.
7AM, next day, Two hours sleep and tired. But everything works for now.
