This might sound a weeee bit out there but has anybody with any metal/machining skills ever looked into converting the final shaft to a CV Joint.
It would make total sense from a vibration/wear point of view.
The reason I posed the question...I happened on this website:
http://www.cvaxles.com/
http://www.cvaxles.com/atv.htm
They must have a CV Joint small enough to fit our application.
I know...I Know our bike is getting pretty old and the numbers diminish as time goes but there is still a large number out there for someone to possibly find it worthwhile??
They even have a form to fill out for custom applications:

I thought CV joints were only needed if you had movement on 2 axis ?

All recent AWD and 4x4 Cars/SUV's, Most ATV's, Side by Sides etc. use CV's front and rear.
Just curious...how many U-Joints are sold to owners on just this forum alone?
Recently there were members here complaining about not being able to find new U-Joints from Honda. How long before they become permanently hard to find.

CV joints are used where more severe angles than u joints can support usually. They are not new and have been used for many years, think 1960's Broncos and others even earlier.

Since no one is making the CV joint for Valkyries it can be done by a good machine shop but the price may be high depending of course on how much work is involved. If your bike has low miles or the parts are made in bulk it may be worth it. When u-joints are unavailable It would be nice to have something else. Another thing is u-joints are old school cv joints are newer tech. just like Valks.

I would have to question the ability to do this since the room required because of the diameter of the CV joint may be more than the diameter of the housing. I think the failure of the ujoints is more a grease issue than a design issue. While the U joints have been a problem from time to time the bigger problem is the splines, now is someone would design a sealed cup with grease in it then it may save the shafts.

CV's for side by sides maybe...don't need a boot.

As it was explained to me by the dealership, they do a run on the u-joints when the number ordered warrants it. So it is probably a good thing to have an extra on hand to save on the inconvenience of none being in stock.
