Hey Florida boys.  Anyone itching for a project?

Check the Space Coast Craigslist there is a 98 Sedona red and creme tourer in Melbourne for under 2K.  Sounds like it don't run from sitting forever but it looks all there.

I'd buy it but no room and no time.

Don't tempt me, Chrisj!  My wife would kill me.

Wish I had a bigger shed.

It doesn't look like a bucket of rust from sitting outside either.

It amazes me that people don't have the sense to throw a tarp or drop cloth or even a bedsheet over a bike that sits for any length of time.

Hmmm.....nah, too hot to sleep in the garage.  :-\  Love to get my hands on it.

I would buy it if I could get in contact with the seller. No response to emails.

Maybe it's one of those "too good to be true"

Squirrel

I had the same issue with the email thing as well.  After numerous emails yesterday and this morning, I finally got a call early this afternoon.  I hooked up my trusty trailer and headed that way, just in case I bought it.  Like the listing stated, it had been sitting in the garage, uncovered for 8 years.  Very dirty!  I was told that it was a one owner bike.  She had the paperwork of when it was bought for a total of a little over $15,000.  It would really need a good cleaning and of course completely gone through.  The chrome was not in the best shape and wouldn't know how bad it is until it was washed and cleaned.  I'm thinking it will be pitted.  Tires were flat, the clutch lever was hard to pull, front brake lever doesn't work, the wheels were filthy, and of course the battery is dead!  However, the engine oil was clean and it was a complete bike.

Now, I want to say that it's all Chrisj's fault!  This bike is now at my house!  My wife took it surprisingly well.  I was able to get it for $1,600 cash.  Now begins the 90% work part.  When I have time, that is.

Congrats on the new acquisition and welcome to the Multiple Valk Group  ;D   :cooldude: :cooldude:

Are you planning on keeping both Valks?

Thunderbolt

I like it when a plan comes together.  :cooldude:

Oh yeah, Jack!  I fell in love with the Valk several years ago when I saw one in a Publix parking lot and started talking to the guy (TC).  He is now a good friend and we both belong to the HCMA (Hunters Creek Motorcycle Association).  However, now I have to get rid of my 1983 Goldwing Interstate and 1982 and 1983 parts bikes.

I am assuming you are Jack A. from Kissimmee, right?  If so, a few years ago, we met at the RaceTrac gas station at the corner of 192 and Simpson Road, and  met some others in Orlando, and headed up to a New Years Eve party in Ocala, I believe it was.  That was my first Valk outting.  I had a great time.

Hey David

Yes, that is me, we did ride to Bert's place that one time.
I was wondering what you had been up to, glad to hear you still got the Valk and still riding with the Hunters Creek Group.
Keep us posted on your progress with the Valk rehab  :cooldude: :cooldude:

Pappy!

You know what "they" say........

Pics or it never happened!   ;)

Dave, does TC still ride a Valkyrie? Haven't seen him in quite some time, used to ride with us once in a while. If you see him, give him my regards.

Squirrel

I figured that was you, Jack.  Hope we can get together again and ride some time.  Yes John, TC still has his Valkyrie.  A few months ago I ask him if he would ever sell his bike.  He sad "Yeah, when he dies".  So, I guess he's never going to sell it.  As far as pics Pappy, I can post a few periodically, but too many other things seem to be taking priority.  I did take a couple pieces of chrome off and clean them.  Light pitting but I guess I can't complain since I got the bike for such a great price and it is 19 years old.  It looks good from say 5 feet away, but if you look close, you can see the pits.  At least it was stored in a garage and not outside!  The overall paint is in very good to excellent condition.  The lower corner of the right side saddle bag has been scraped a little and some rust on the hinges, but other than that, the bags are in excellent shape.  By the way, there is old stinky gas and RUST in the gas tank, so that's one of my major concerns right now.  Maybe I will start a separate blog on suggestions on how to clean out the tank, or check to see if anyone else has already posted that.  Also, I want to take out the spark plugs, remove the valve covers, and verify that the valves are not stuck and that the engine turns over by hand properly.  The engine oil looks clean.  Of course, I will want to verify that it starts and runs before I start putting any money into it.

Pappy!

Light rust in a tank and you can use a vinegar in it. Heavy rust can be removed by electrolysis. Easy to do so let us know what level of rust you think you have.

Squirrel

Thanks, Pappy!.  I think I'm going to use the vinegar to start with and see what happens.  I pulled the tank yesterday and drained out about 4 gallons of stinky gas.  It wouldn't drain through the petcock, so I removed it.  I finally got the screen out with the help of WD40 and it is completely blocked.  Other things keep getting in the way, but I'll get back on it in a few days.

Squirrel

Thanks, Larue.  Yes, I was very fortunate.  Two other people had already looked at it.  The first person offered $1000 and she said no.  The second person offered $1500, but wanted to look at another bike first.  That's when I came in at $1600.  I couldn't believe the bike was still available!  Well, it was my birthday that day, so I guess the Good Lord was keeping it for me!  Happy Birthday to me!

My wife is picking up some vinegar today, so hopefully I can get the tank filled today or tomorrow.  I've been taking chrome off and polishing them as time permits.  I'm sure I will be removing the exhaust and cleaning it the best that I can.  My wife says that I have OCD, and maybe she's right!  But, there's a lot to be said for detailing.  I'm not perfect at it, but I like to try to do things the right way.  With the pipes in place, there are places that I can't clean and polish.

With the price that I paid for the bike, i can afford to buys some extra chrome, such as transmission covers, spark plug covers, and possibly a chrome radiator cover.
