Sometimes ya just gotta go...

                                             Repeating Myself...

From Eagle River, we'd retraced our route back to Tok for a night, then on to Haines Junction, YT, for another two nights this time. On the way to Haines Junction I'd decided to take an extra day and swing down through Haines, AK... We'd missed that place on the first trip, opting instead for Skagway.

The day ride down to Haines was truly an unexpected ‘WOW! Experience’ of the first order of magnitude!!! Stunning scenery, gorgeous weather, nearly clear sky, pleasant but not warm temperatures, light and easy traffic… no revenuers out to pester us with lectures or required payments of tribute either…

Not even any critters to cause us any worry… Oh the critters were there, all right, we just didn’t see them this day… Nope, the euphoria level was running quite high!

The ride down…

Halfway between the US Customs checkpoint and the town of Haines, I came across this small restaurant out in the boondocks… I thought it might be a good place for brunch… It was…

My meal server and merriment facilitator…

While dining on the veranda, two other couples chose to sit out there too… The lady in the below picture was complaining of ‘salmon arm’! She claims she caught more fish the day before than any of her three companions… The two guys didn’t have much to say about that, so I suspect it was true…

Breakfast all day here! The feast…

The town and seaport of Haines, AK.

Since ALI was unloaded, I decided to try my hand at a ‘money shot’ on the way back to the motel… I’m having a hard time picking just one, though, but since ALI is ‘our girl’, I thought maybe you should help with the selection…

Many times I’d have been tempted to vote for this one, myself…

It was getting on towards late afternoon, so I finally had to just stop taking pictures and return to Haines Junction… I’d seen a sign somewhere along the way that read, “Drink Canada Dry”… I did want to be neighborly and do my part…

First and if you'd crouched down a tad more you would have visually reduced the amount of blacktop and hidden the paint lines on the road

I also prefer the first shot. As for the last one, it obviously isn't an "official" relief station....no half moon cut in the door. One thing I don't understand is the roof structure of that depository. It appears to have an overhang going all the way around, but the front portion is open beams?!? I liked the earlier pics higher up in the post, looks like a long lonely road ahead in those shots. The scenery is breathtaking, reminds me of our Canadian trip and the Canadian Rockies. Every turn in the road was filled with similar scenes.  cooldude

Bruce, Jane and I have been following you all along this trip. We are planning to be there ourselves next summer.  I will be picking your brain for info the next time we meet. (??? Fall Color Ride ???) One thing I have noticed, is that the southern part of Alaska  seems to be the most scenic. Every pic you post makes me want to pack and leave.
The pictures are not what you would call close ups of Ali, but she sure looks mighty fine. You didn't by chance run her through the creek a few times to clean her up did you? I know your service crew is too far away for them to have given her a bath.

I like this one!

Terry, like most of the others, I was a bit partial to the first one, too. However, whatever you did to enhance the one you like... I like too! Now, I'm torn again...

Paul, while I am prone to proneness... I do have my limits! Actually, a good photographer could have made anyone of those much better... Oh well, I do what I can... Thanks for the tip, though, I'll try to keep that in mind next time! BTW, you often offer good tips and sound advice on various matters... I do appreciate all of that, because it helps me to think of things that wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise... Anyway, I appreciate ya dude!

Mike, don't see anything like that in Florida either!!! That cloud is what caught my eye to take that shot... Terry sure made it better, though, didn't he?

Keith & Jane, yeah, for my money the southern part of that magnificent state is the part I personally prefer... More mountains and some of the most fantastic scenery I've ever gazed upon! Heck, just thinking about it tempts me to turn around and head back up! I do plan to make the FCR... at least right now I do... You never know, but most likely... I don't miss many of those. So, fire away with the questions, I'll be happy to share what I know... or think I know... Yeah, all things considered, ALI does look remarkably clean, doesn't she!? Can't explain that really, but I assure you it ain't because of anything I did! I tend to keep good 'bug collections' for a spell...  lol

Well Hell ! Now I've got to change my vote. Is that legal ? How do you change a picture to begin with ? Never mind, I'll never master it anyway. Good job t-man.  cooldude

Hey Hook!

Yeah, she does, doesn't she! Actually, she was right at home... She seems to fit anywhere I take her, and she always draws a comment or two... including at that place. Lots of stuff comes from a stop like that... things that wouldn't happen at a Denny's or Perkin's... probably not even a Waffle House... lol

I came across a couple of scenes where clouds were in unusual positions relative to the mountains... One time, the road actually took us upward and through one! We were driving along ooo-ing and aww-ing at the sights, then the road began a noticeable climb upward, then the next thing I knew we were driving in a fairly dense fog! It didn't last very long, but it was just another wonderment that contributed to the overall magic of a really great and very special ride that day!

One more vote for the original 'funny cloud' one.  I just like the richer colors.
