August 16. 1977, Elvis died.

Turner Classic Movies is hosting an all day Elvis marathon of the films that he made.
Good or bad (mostly) they are "monuments" that won't be eliminated as this son of the south lives on celluloid.

There was only one young Elvis Presley with that "only one voice" in the 50's; Sinatra was the other "only one".

Sitting in friend Raymond's  Peugot 405 driving around the Catford (SE London) one way system when the news came on the radio.

Was on a three month sojourn and coming out of Yellowstone territory, heading for a meetup with friends in Utah.  Didn't listen to the radio in the Mondo Van and nowhere's near a television for a many weeks.
They told me the news upon my arrival and after a much welcomed shower.  Instant letdown.

Got a steady diet of his crooning from my two older sisters (in their bobby socks years) from their collection of 45's, his face on the teen mags, and of course...Ed Sullivan.  Sure, he borrowed from those before him, but his adaptation of their souls rocked ours and brought us honky kids to the promised land of rock n' roll.
