Ride Like a Pro - Houston

Hey all,

At  the meeting last night I mentioned that I was looking to take an advanced rider course and we tracked down Ride Like a Pro: Houston's schedule to see if a group of us wanted to do this.  Currently, they have classes open 'till the end of Nov on Saturday's, from 8am to 1pm, for $150 in Sugarland.  Unfortunately, the only Sat I have open between now and then..and this is iffy depending on the Shuttle Launch, is the 21st of Nov.  So, my plan is to take the class on that Sat, if they still have openings.  I won't know if I can even make that date until after the 16th (launch day) so the risk to there being a full class is real.  Keeping that in mind though, the classes that are happening this weekend still have spots open so maybe a full class isn't too much of a worry.

Anyhow, that's my plan.  The 21st of Nov and anyone that wants to join in the fun is welcome.    Wish I could anchor this down better but so goes life.

As a side, if they open up classes in Dec, I'd be happy to slide the date to later in the year.

Those are great folks that run Ride Like a Pro. They'll come out and talk at a group meeting too. One of the instructors is Sugar Land LEO. I'll check out my schedule and see when I can go. Duct Tape is headed across the pond this Monday for a few weeks.

I have taken a few ERC by MSF. Do you think that R.L.Pro 's course is different? I am looking for a more challenging course. I have looked on their website, it looks like more of the same stuff. Anybody taken both? TJ

For the N Texas folks: There is a new Beginners Safety Course training group that teaches their classroom portion in Allen and their riding portion at McKinney High School.  I spoke with one of the principals at the Ride For Kids Auction, and pending the processing of their Advanced Riders Course application, they are eager to schedule something with us.  This could be a substitute for one of the monthly rides, OR, in addition to the regular wrench party / ride schedule.  We should talk about it at the November meeting.  Remind me.  Thanks.

I've had an advanced class.  Not that it shows in my riding, but I do have the certificate.  I thought I read the Ride Like a Pro gave you more advanced instruction, like police motor officer training, than the normal advanced class.

Discussion at our last meeting was that the Advanced MSF class is somewhat useless, but the RLAP class is very good.  I may be exaggerating, since I'm trying to quote someone else by memory, but that's what I remember.
Anyway, that's why we're after the RLAP class.

My brother (Valk / Wing rider), who used to teach the Advanced MSF in California, is the one that highly suggested I take the RLaP class in the first place.  That's a pretty stout endorsement in my book.  

Oh, and yes, I was trying to see who would be interested in taking the class as a group.  Unfortunately, I'm still anchored to the shuttle launch schedule and won't know if I'm going to be able to make it back to Houston until the 16th of Nov.

I am interrested in taking the RLaP Class. With a vrcc group would be more a lot more fun and productive.

I am interested in a RLAP class providing it is not just the normal advanced rider class.

I will be taking RLAP the weekend of Nov 7.  They say there are only 2 people signed up.   Will keep you posted on how it went.  I never took an advanced rider class, so have little to compare it to.  Hoping to gain skills in low speed, U turn, parking lot type manuevers.

Here's the skinny on the class.  Good people out there, Had a great opportunity me and 1 other student with 2 instructors.   The class is all about very slow speed manuevers in tight corners, U turns, circles, etc.  Teaches you a lot about keeping the bike up when in parking lots and trying to make a quick U turn.  Helped me out a lot, but I am only 2 years on my Valk and 4 years riding.  Did end up setting my baby on the engine guard twice when I goofed up hitting the front brake in a tight turn.  MY BAD.  You do not come out as an expert, but you will need more practice.  Class out in Sugarland by 59 and airport road.  Was well worth the $150 to me as I never got the Valk to do what it did before I took the class.

That sounds like an advanced MSF course that many of us took here in Dallas.  Subman made the tightest turns in the course and he was riding darkside, which blew away the instructors.  Not the "hyper" advanced course I'm thinking that RLAP would be.

I'm back...but I'm injured.  Kinda fubar'd my left hand a bit rock climbing in Florida so I'm going to have to postpone taking the RLaP class.
