of 1100 people coming home from work today.  First time a few months ago was a legitimate roll-thru (about 1-2 mph on thru) in same 4-way stop thru downtown (one horse road).  He gave me a warning.

2nd time was tonight (different cop) and I made a point of actually coming to a complete stop this time since he was sitting right in front of me at the 4-way stop 15 yards away.  What a _ick!  He pulled me over and just drove alongside me telling me I rolled right thru the stop sign and come to a complete stop next time.  All I said back was I did stop,  but he said NO I did not, he saw it all and rolled right on thru.

Next time I will come to a complete stop,  count to 5 seconds holding up my fingers so the local cop can see me holding up my fingers and see if he pulls me over again?   tickedoff     I guess the new cops in town (old one retired after several decades) need to annoy the locals for I have heard from others in town they are doing it to everyone local in town.   Maybe they need to get hired in the next town over since their revenue from pulling over EVERYONE on the main road thru town are dozens and dozens appearing in the weekly newspaper, all 10 pages of it.    police

So, I was in my car this time, but how many of you on your cycles if clearly a 4-way stop and EASY seeing all around clearly say in a small town like ours with NO traffic, do not put their feet down and either in 1st or 2nd gear 'roll on' thru say 1-2 mph thru the stop sign?  I have pretty darn good balance even on the Valkyrie and can darn near stop the cycle for a split second completely although our local cop am sure will say no matter what was a roll thru am sure.

Next you see him there just stop do a big as burnout right in front of him then roll through and pull over. When he asks you what the hell were you thinking, just simple reply I didn't want you not to have a reason to pull me over.  Grin

Here it seams a stop sign means slow and go.
Many time on a highway they hardly slow down and then they pull in front of you and go slow or turn into another road or driveway.

The last ticket I got was for not stopping. I did a complete stop. Three way intersection , car in front of me was going to roll thru. He saw the cop on the left in the bushes. Made a sudden stop and went on. I stopped at the sign. There was no oncoming or traffic to my right. I took off , got stopped for following the car thru the stop. I told him what happened. He said we will let the judge sort it out. I said , you know the judge will believe you over me. I said  , you are wrong and I have to take a day to go to court for something I did not do.  I got fined for something I did not do. The next time I went thru there , I stopped , rolled down the window , waved to the leo ,and went on.

Once, while waiting for a city bus near a 3-way stop, I decided to do a little data collection.  When there was not another car or pedestrian to stop for, 19 out of 20 rolled through.  One of 20 obeyed his stop sign.  At other times, I have observed that city buses almost never completely stop unless there is other traffic to yield to.  Police vehicles are better, but far from perfect.

I don't know about other jurisdictions, but in Alberta, the law isn't stop at the stop sign; it's when there is a stop sign, stop before and within 3m of either a) the stop line, b) the near line of the crosswalk, or c) the imaginary line connecting the edge of the road to your left with the edge of the road to your right.  If the stop sign is placed more than 3m before that line, you could stop at the sign then pull through the intersection, and still get a legitimate ticket.  The stop sign is placed where it is most visible, and means you must stop at the proper place at this intersection.

Regarding getting ticketed for bogus offences, and also for evidence in disputed blame for collisions, I think the best defence is a dashcam.  I'm waiting for dashcams to get to the top of my financial priority list.  When that happens, I hope I can find a reasonably-priced unit with a remote camera that is mostly invisible from the outside of the car/bike.  I don't want the hassle of removing it every time I park so it doesn't attract thieves.

I agree Gryphon Rider,

A dash cam is almost required these days.  Not only for the idiots in cages, but against the cops and scammers also.  I have seen a few people get pulled over for something that I didn't see anything wrong with.  Cops have always made up stories to give out tickets.  Not every one of them is like that, but the very few who are give a bad name to the rest.

Years ago I got stopped at night for speding when I was not speeding.  20 km/h over.  A car passed me with one side of his lights out and the cop nailed me instead of the car.  I tried to tell the cop that it was not me , it was a car, but it didn't do any good.  I went to court, but the judge didn't believe me either.  Ended up with a $150 fine and 3 demerits off my license.

The second time I ever got stopped was from an OPP officer during a blitz on the 417 in Ottawa.  Somehow, she said, she saw me cross a white solid line from a 1/2 mile away.  I disputed it with her and said it was impossible for her to see me in heavy traffic doing such.  She dropped that charge, but gave me a ticket for not having an up to date insurance card on me.  That cost me $125.  The sole purpose of the blitz was just to see if there was something they could fine drivers with.

The last time time I ever got stopped was in Dianna county NY for speeding.  7 mph over the limit.  I was doing the speed limit, but got nailed by a state trooper.  Didn't bother fighting it, since I would have had to travel 2 hours to NY to fight the ticket and I found out that it is a common practice in the area to ticket out of state drivers.  Because the town needed cash and fighting the ticket would do no good I just paid it.  That ticket cost me $285.  $85 for speeding and a $200 victim surcharge.

I have been seriously thinking about getting one to protect myself from the cops, scammers and proof if I ever get into an accident.

I am a troglodyte on electronics, but I just saw an add on a rear view mirror dash cam, and that seems like a good way to go.  So long as it's hidden in plan sight, and doesn't have bleeping LEDs on it like every other appliance known to man these days.

As somebody said earlier, a dashcam is your best protection. You can get them for as little as about $20.00 and everybody should have them. For the last 4 years, I've had cameras in both front and rear of mine and my wife's vehicles. My daughter has two in her car because of my influence.
I'm not likely to ever be without my cameras.
I don't need to talk about all the many things they can protect you from. You can imagine.
I do suggest that you put aside the idea that you have to spend a lot of money to get a bunch of bells and whistles. Personally, I'm against having GPS location and speed monitoring. All of the models in our family has the capability but none are hooked up. Cameras can help you and they can also hurt you. It works both ways. I don't want to have my camera showing my speed in a courtroom.
You already know that the police are shooting video of cars going through the intersection and would have video to prove you didn't stop at a stop sign. As somebody else wrote, a lot of people won't go out of the way to try and contest the ticket and figure the judge will just take the cop's word over yours. So, why not have your own camera to prove that you did stop?

A way for the state to make extra money.  It 'theoretically' goes to a victim fund to help with counselling and such, but more than likely it just goes into the general coffers.  We have the same kind of thing up here now.  Another tax grab.

Man, from what I have been reading of the Canadians,  glad I live in the good old US of A.  I thought the  police down south of the border were bad,  Canadians must have it worse.

I was tempted to piss off the cop telling him show me the video as proof, but since he just rolled up on me beside me not even running plates just rolling his window down yelling at me to come to a complete stop, I figured it best to let it slide for the most part.  He could have been a jerk more so and ticketed me for a roll thru even though it was not this time.  I would have fought it for sure even if it was say only a 100 dollar fine taking a day off work with no pay to go to court if need be.

I will be the first to admit I roll thru stops 1-2 mph if no traffic, etc., especially with my cycles not putting my feet down to come to a complete stop, but when I see a cop parked at the 4-way stop stairing at me,  I surely will STOP, especially in my one horse town.

I like the burnout idea, but my old GM car would not do a burnout besides a slight squack of the FWD car.   Next time I will hold up my fingers while stopped and count on all 5 fingers before going thru showing him I stopped.

Then you get the idiots at a 4-way or even 2-way stop sign and you know they are at the intersection/stop sign first by 4-5 seconds, but they just sit there NOT moving thru the intersection first.  IDIOTS.

OR,  all the darn roundabouts popping up when the person in front of you STOP NOT moving on thru when no cars coming from the left side.  IDIOTS.

I like the idea of a video dash cam both front and back though, good idea nowadays to have one.  Just saw on the news on a dash cam here in WI is illegal to mount on your front windshield though have to mount on your dash with say a suction cup mount, etc.

Ii grew up in a small town. We had 1 four way stop intersection. No one stopped at it. It worked like a slow moving British round-about. Not the American type that aren't much more than a 4 way stop with a planter in the middle.

Not a rolling stop, but, something similar, maybe. Was just stopped for doing 33 in a 30. Just to try and be a PITA [ respectful PITA though] while the brand new young officer kept saying he he was giving me a warning, I kept trying to get him to write the coupon to teach me a lesson. We did both separate with smiles our faces.
