The board isn't sad!  It always amazes me how some get all bent out of shape if there are (in their mind) too many non motorcycle posts. If you want more motorcycle related posts. Post some or you are just part of your own problem.

You say you have not much reason to come by anymore.  What WAS your reasons before?

Sounds like you need a ride and then post a ride report

I'm as guilty or more than anybody else. I usually post about every ride we go on. It's just that work, life gets in the way and don't get to ride as much as I would like. To be honest, I enjoy a lot of the other stories about what's going on in people's lives.

A somewhat serious reply, or as serious as I get, and how I see this group and this forum:

While this started as just a group of people that shared a common love of a specific make and model of motorcycle, over the years it has grown and morphed into a family of friends.

Like all families we have out disagreements and squabbles.

But at the end of the day, we're a family. We like chatting with each other.

And if ALL we chatted about was motorcycle rides there wouldn't be nearly enough to chat about. There's always room to chat about those, I've never seen anyone complain when someone posts about a ride or something bike related, please do so, but being a family we like to chat about, well... just about anything.

If you're at a party and one group of people are having a discussion you don't want to participate in then wander around, there will be other groups discussing other things, you'll find someone who wants to chat with ya' about something ya' wanna chat about.

I see the forum in a similar light. If you don't like some threads, then wander away from them, find the threads (Groups of people) that do interest you and join in.

The forum is organic. The topics people wish to chat about will be the ones that get chatted about. There's nothing sinister or sad about this, it's human nature.

Just my $0.02, and worth what you paid for it. Wink

Serk, my cerebral friend... you have nailed it right on the money, at least as far as I am concerned. I don't let myself become embroiled in stuff that I consider pointless, or worse, that is 'bait' intended to lure the thin-skinned into a diatribe... This can be, and it is for me personally, a very meaningful venue through which I've met some absolute characters, learned a great deal about many things, but most of all grown as a person... I do like it here... warts and all... Heck, I think I might even hang around a while longer... Oh, and I do like to ride and tell about it, so...

Robert,

It's an inside joke... A few of my pals know what that means, but most don't... It has to do with a gal I once dated back in the sixties... She was something, and her memory still brings a smile to my face even now... although you wouldn't know it by the serious look on my face in that selfie... Anyway, she had a special fondness for 'Zero' candy bars, and I indulge in one sometimes as I recall a time back in the day...

Robin this is not aimed at you unless it applies, if it applies then fill it out and submit it.  Anyone that is butthurt over the discussions on the board of late; here is a form to fill out.  Fill in the blanks and post it in this thread and one of our expert research analysts will tally the data and be able to decide if the board is sad or you are.  That way there is no "pissing match" This topic comes up every blue moon or so, maybe some data will put the issue to rest.  LOL

Chris, they need to print up thousands of those forms and distribute them at all the institutions of higher(?) learning. Maybe give the recipient a coupon for a free box of tissue and free roll of TP.....in hopes they could figure out the proper function of each.

This is a bogus form. First of all the Department of Emotional Security should be issuing tissues for free and it is unconstitutional to ask about tears on a form of any kind. Unless medical related and that is governed under HIPPA. So the tears question violates HIPPA.
And if you check the box that you will not be able to get past the butthurt the government appointed counselor contact information should be printed on the form.
And why is it only in black and white? Hmm?? It should be of rainbows and unicorns. I mean there is enough stress already.

Robin,
As others have said in the past, just ignore the threads you don't want to see.

There was another Valkyrie board that banned political posts, and as unfortunate as it is, they are no longer functioning. I used to check it out because I really liked most of the members and their posts. In the months before it shut down there were days and days of NO POSTS, obviously one of the reasons for their lack of existence today.

I agree with Serk, this board has become somewhat of a family, you have to take the good along with the bad.

It is what it is, or, it is what you make it.

RP#62 did a post about Battleships that had absolutely nothing to do with Valkyries or motorcycles.

I'm very glad he did. Smiley

I rode my Valkyrie down to see one.

It was a great ride.

More than a decade ago I made the same statement, that this board did not stay to the motorcycle content enough.  I was wrong then and it is false now.

The common denominator was/is Honda Valkyries.

This forum is more than just a motorcycle board, it's a family.

If anyone doesn't believe that go back and read the posts regarding DDT's recent mechanical issues.

Like any family there are going to be disagreements from time to time.

No matter how heated an argument may get here, it's very tame compared to Facebook.

That is largely due to the tireless and thankless work done by our moderators here.

It is also due to people here knowing each other and having shared wind together.

I know Robin and I know that he is "Good People"!

He voiced his opinion as it is his right to do here.

Personally, I don't agree with it but I am not going to jump on the dogpile against him.

This topic does come up from time to time and I am firmly in the camp that believes a forum limited to motorcycle only topics will not survive.

I also believe that were it not for the freedom to discuss a multitude of topics the members here would not have ever became a family.

This is a good group of people, "Warts" and all!

Another time that this topic came up someone did bring up a point that I had not considered.

The point being that it is disheartening to go to the trouble of posting a ride report only to see it pushed back to the second or third page in a matter of hours.

To this I believe that we all have something of an obligation to respond to such posts. Even if it is only to say a quick thank you to the OP.

I must admit that more often than not I fall short of this goal, but i do try.

Maybe we all should try harder to do this.

Especially those of us that are more prone than others to engage in a "spirited" political discussion.
